E55 to CLS63
I just posted this on the CLS board, but I also wanted to post here to get all of the e55 guys opinions.
I have not been on the boards for a very long time, but I still think that this community is the best of all car enthusiast forums. I had a 2003 e55, and it was a beautiful beast. I had the Evosport package 2, it it rocked! I loved that monster, but due to my profession and career I had to move to Shanghai and Taipei and I sold my e55 2 years ago. I have been through many cars, many many project cars with massive hp n tq numbers but seriously, no car has had my pulse pumping like the e55.
I would like to make it clear that I am not BSing....and I am not a troll....I've posted pics on here many years ago too...
Cylinder Head can confirm. He is actually my best friend and I must say he is a lil way too knowledgable about cars, all cars....haha...
Anyway, I am moving back to NJ/NY area to start a couple new business projects, and I placed an order for a white 2008 CLS63 with black interior, optioned out and 030 package. I think its somewhere around 109,000 USD.
So, coming from a modded e55, will I enjoy the CLS63? I go with the moto "friends don't let friend drive stock" and when I get the new car I will mod the hell out of it. BUT, there is a big but, the 63 is NA and I have done countless hours of research and the only mods I have found are ECU and headers, charcoal filter removal, and I can take out the resonators.
Even after I do all that, it will still be less power than my previous e55.
Anything else I am able to do?
Are there any carbon fiber airboxes out yet? Or even carbon fiber engine covers?
Thanks for taking the time to read this thread and I am looking forward to reading all of your opinions. And please tell me what you guys think!
Am I making the right move?
Thanks again!
As to whether it will be faster than your previous stage 2 E55, that will be always be subjective. But in my opinion, I think the modded E55 will still be faster because your E55 was supercharged, had more horsepower, and infinitely more torque. But then again, you probably lost traction like crazy. So the only way you'll be able to compare more accurately is if you run 1/4 mile numbers after fully modding the 63 and compare it to the 1/4 mile numbers of your E55 (I'm assuming you ran 1/4 mile with your previous E55 of course).
600 hp is generally pushing the limits of the 7-G transmision in the 63 engines and so even if the tuners can squeeze more power, they'll have to beef-up the transmission first. But the good news is, these mods should satisfy you just long enough until the new Twin Turbo 63 models hit the market in 3-4 years....

In plain terms, the 63 will feel a bit slower around town due to less torque. The 63's exhaust sounds 10x meaner then the 55.The 7sp tranny is **** compared to the 5sp.
Before you make a final decision you can ride up w skyler&take my 63 for a spin if you want.Just come in the Supra so I can take a spin in that in exchange
Yes, I heard about the twin turbo 63! Thats insane. I hope it does come out sooner than later.
Well with 600 hp, which is roughly the kind of power I am looking for, but im very worried that 7g transmission will be working way too hard, and im not sure if that's a chance i wnat to take.
Oldgixxer,
Haha...sounds good, ill run that over with Sky.

yes, i have seen those ridiculous prices for 48 hp....

the renntech headers seem ok though, but still pricey.
i have seen the kleemann headers too, those log style mainfolds don't do it for me either. it looks stock and i dont see how it will make more than 15-20 hp.
haha....yea i feel bad for myself! I'll trade u best freinds!

it will not gain any power, but it will help you get to your higher RPMS quicker.
remember, its not how much power you have, but how fast you can get to it.
