Just for my peace of mind, I'm hoping someone can confirm that no part covers the section of the cylinder head boxed in red.

I don't remember taking a part off that section and I have no parts left over but, boy, it just doesn't look correct.

Yep, got the part that installs there...just left it off for the photo.

 

Actually if you look down in there with a flash light,you can see that is goes all the way through the head and out by the exhaust manifold.Probably a water jacket passage for a different model M113.

 

Interesting. That seems like a good guess to me. Can't think of any other reason for MB to spend time machining that section of the heads.
