E63 Transmission Question ???

I actually have a couple of questions for you guys.... any help would greatly be appreciated.

My car only has 600 miles (yes I know I'm still under break-in period but I just can't wait ) and it does start in 1st gear when in sport mode.

However, I noticed that the car does NOT redline in 1st gear. When I slam down the gas pedal, it will shift at 6200 RPM in 1st gear, but it will red-line on 2nd, 3rd, etc....

1) Is that normal for all 63s out there?

2) Dealer says that there is no transmission software updates. But I've read on here that there has been updates (possibly more than one). So can someone (who did the update) please post the re-call campaign number or the software update information so that I can face the dealer with it?

3) Could this simply be due to break-in period ?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi My car did this as well since i didnt drive it hard on break in. My car also started in 2 in SPort mode. I did the reset via the key that they mention on the forum and it made the car shift into 1st every other time.

Dealer did a ECU and TCU update Last week, the car always goes into 1st, it always hits redline and it feels 100% better, car is breaking loose in up to 3rd gear.

Have your dealer reset the adapations and do the update, my RO does not list the campaign or update code otherwise i would post it.

Your car is correct shifting a bit early in 1st gear. All E63's and CLS63's do this. I posted a whole thread on this a while ago.....

You will need the update if your car shifts out early like 3000 rpm @WOT. Also if the car starts ibn 2nd in D/S. Try downshifting after the car shifts to 2nd and see if you can increase the shift point past 6200. This will improve with miles and hard driving

How can you downshift after it has shifted from 1-2nd at 6200 back to 1st? It would never do that. Or do you mean something different than i understood. I flogged my car many times to try to get it to shift at redline or closer in 1st and nothing has helped. I am visiting the dealer soon and will see if they'll do the software upgrade eventhough i believe my E63 has it. It starts in 1st in sport mode.

Thx.

strt the car in drive sport.
Once it shift into 2nd using the paddle or the shift go back into 1st. The car now thinks you want to shift so it will not or should not upshift until redline. This test should be done between 20-40 mph. In d/s if you shift down your car will wait foor YOU to upshift. See what happens

I just got my car from the dealer tonight and they told me my car has the LATEST software (production date of 05/27/2007 - just 2 months ago).

The car starts in 1st gear in S mode, but just continues to shift at 6200 to 6300 RPM in 1st gear ?

Juicee63, thanks for the advise. I will give that a try tonight and let you know if it works....

Just dont step or mash the gas, steady on the pedal and do not get scared. Car will continue towards redline in first and will shift out 6800-7200. It is really difficult to maintain this but training the car to shift out @redline will give you max performance. Keep in mind it is adaptive so getting stuck in traffic will change everything. ECU reset also can be done and or a dyno mode run to see max shift. Car should at least take you to 6700-7000 right now

But if I don't mash the pedal and I keep it slow and steady, then the RPM will never reach redline ?

LOL, you can still increase the speed and rpm w/o flooring it. I drive around like this all the time, stay in first your car will wind and sound like it wants to blow up..It will not and the rpm will move slowly to red line, hold it at 6900 the car should still stay in first then creep to 7100 and the car will shift out hopefull@ 7200 or really close. I will make a vid.. I should of said "slow and steady climb"

My 63 went to the dealer saturday because it would "clunk" when at a stoplight from 2nd to 1st gear.Service manager said a few 7g's have had this problem and they have an updated trans valve body that will cure this. They flashed the newest engine&tranny software as well.
The car was running real real hard, noticeably better on the way home.
I was shocked when I left the stoplight, floored it and it actually chirped when it grabbed 2nd gear.I swear it frigging BANGED 2nd gear like it was posessed.Very happy with that

Wo Juicee! I tried it and held it high up in RPM (7000-7200) in 1st 3 times and then after starting again I just floored and it shifted at 6700-6800 RPM! It's learning and the shift gave me much more oomph! Excellent. How did you ever find this out?

Thx.

Driving around with another member of this forum I realized my car shifted out of first earlier than his but 2nd 3rd and 4th were the same. When racing he seemed to always get a jump and stay in front. After traiing the car the races became more even. Now you can increase the shift points a bit more (7-7200rpm. Your car will love the high revving. The earlier the car learns seems the faster the car will go after many miles. I am certain my car is faster @10k miles than it was at 2k

I thought the early shifting from 1st to 2nd was pre-programmed. I remember recently reading an article on the CLK 63 BS that showed a different rev limiter for 1st gear.
