Rear Diffuser Painted???? Before and after pics below

Has anyone here painted there Rear Diffuser to match the bumper?

I'm having my bumpers re-painted and my body shop technician asked me if I wanted the Rear Diffuser painted to match the rest of the car. I told him I would have to think about it. I'm not sure how it'll look. I guess if I don't like I can replace it with a CF one.

PS: I know I need to change my CL style grill...... it has been ordered.

Okay here's the before and after pics.........what do you think????
It really wasn't that hard to get off. It is a $10 pc of plastic. I used WD-40 to clean the clue off. I did find out I have a broken bracket under there....I bet it's $50 bucks to replace.

The cheap plastic diffuser cover can be removed and the surface under it is painted body color. I took it off of my wife's alabaster white E55 and it looked better than the plastic. I did end up putting the carbon fiber on and like that look the best.

You don't happen to have pics with it removed(pre-CF) do you?

How do you get the plastic cover off? I just took a look at it and it looks like it is taped or glued to it.

use fishing line and 'saw' it off. doesn't hurt the paint. I did mine. I like it better with the diffuser off.

It will look exactly like my old E500 with AMG body kit, but with twin exhausts.

I simply pulled mine off, looks MUCH better. It is just taped on, seems like a 10.00 piece of plastic. Underneath is nice and shiny and makes the car flow better IMO

E55BKS: Just paint it and take pics of on/off/stock, you can always buy an unpainted piece if you want to go back.

Here is one of mine, w/diffuser pulled off.
Looks decent, looked ok with it also. It is a toss-up...

I painted mine long before it was discovered that it could just be pulled off. I grew to hate it though, it makes the rear end look too fat (up-and-down wise, not width). The diffuser tapers the butt of the car and leans it out by emphasizing its width as opposed to its height.

I just pulled mine off as it was fading and looked bad, a carbon fiber treatment would look great but I like the matching paint underneath

I've always thought the opposite. It looks too narrow across the rear with it on. Removed, the rear has more depth being mono-toned. Adds to the cars 'presence'.
CF would be cool, though!

I showed the car to a few friends yesterday and they liked it along with the badge's removed.

One comment was " I like the way it gives the car more depth back there, what was that black thing on there for anyway there's nothing black anywhere else on the car?"

I would love to see a carbon fiber one up close in person.......that's not going to happen around where I live. I bet I'm the only person under 40 that owns a 55 in this city (Raleigh).

BTW......I killed two Mexicans in a Camaro SS yesterday, they had no idea what I had under the hood. Of course they did the fly by after I smoked them by 8 bus lengths. We started at around 65 mph......I wouldn't say it was a real race but based on how I smoked them from 70 mph, a 30 mph rolling start wouldn't be a contest.

Thats exactly what Im saying. I think it looks "fatter" in the back, ie. the rear has more depth if the diffuser is painted to match the body. I think having a different color diffuser shortens the height (depth) of the rear of the car making it look lean and aggressive and less like a pig. To each his own, I guess.

I do. My preference is Carbon Fiber, I added it to mine a few months ago. Its the hands down #1 best option. Ill try to post some pics tomorrow.

I took mine off yesterday, it was on there good. I used a heat gun which helped soften the tape up. It took about a 45 to get it and all of the tape off. My car is black, I think the painted black looks cleaner then the faded looking black plastic. Carbon fiber may look good but I like to keep the car looking and sounding 100% stock.

I guess its because the diffuser actually has a function. As minute as it may be, MB found it necessary to put it on and leave it up to the owner whether or not to remove it.

My fathers E55 is the blue/gray color, I like the black with that color. Mine is silver, I think I like it body color.

Their is no purpose, it is cosmetic only. It actualy slows the car down since it add's weight.
