Tires, variances in diameter?

I need tires for a specific application, the fronts are 25.4 in and the rears are 26.6, will this affect anything, I think i read somewhere up to an inch is OK?

Jay, what exactly are you trying to do?

I'm sure you know that tire diameter can vary slightly for each tire model. The Tire Rack list all tire specs on their site.

Generally when changing tire sizes, it's recommend staying within 3% of the diameter/height of the original tire. Any more than this and I know at least the speedometer will be off.

Here is a tire height calculator:

If it's for your CL, I actually don't recommend this large a disparity. I'm actually somewhat embarassed to go through the details on this. I'll just say that my prediction with you ~ 4% shorter tires in front is that your ABS/ESP will be overactive and the net will be to make the car slower. Worse, it will adjust in a small amount that won't necessarily register as "triangle blinking".

I like going with slightly shorter tires on the CL, but they need to be roughly the same front to back.

Are you trying to spoof the ESP system into letting you have a little more rear tire spin and reduce the energy of spinning the front tires for quarter runs? I believe up to a point this will work, but it will give you trouble if you drive this configuration on the street and 4% may be too much.

I am swithcing around my tire and wheel set up for the 1/4 track. My current rear tire is 26.6mm and the front tire I want to change to is 25.4mm. There are a couple of SL65's out there whose stock front is 26.2mm and they run a 25.6mm rear drag tire. I think I may swap out my rears and run a 25.6mm rear matched with the same size 25.6mm front

SL65 AMG
The tires on the sl65 in the rear are shorter then the front. I think the front is 26 and the rear is 25.6 or 25.7. Damn J you are really working on getting into those 10's for the 10/8 meet.
