E55 vs. M5

Sorry, no video. I have a stock E55 and was out running some errands yesterday. A good friend of mine was in the car with me. We were on the freeway and an M5 comes up behind me and then changes lanes and passes. The freeway was too congested to run but I kept him in sight and caught up when the freeway ended into a six lane divided road which has red lights.

We went through a couple of lights and finally came to a stop at a red light next to each other. My friend rolls down the window and talks to the guy and asks if he would like to see how the cars matched up. He agreed but did not nail it from the line and I waited for him to go first. At about 10mph I could he hit it and I did the same allowing him to get the jump. I was somewhat surprised that my E55 easily gained ground and pulled about a full car on him(and was still pulling away) when I let off at about 80(traffic ahead).

His car was new and I don't know how many miles he had on it or if he knew how to drive it correctly, but a kill is a kill. We talked to him again at another light and he said he liked the E55 and had considered buying an E63 but chose the M5. He also said he didn't know how to work the launch control yet. Not that it mattered because I waited for him to go first anyway. This is the first time I had ever had an encounter with an M5 and I wasn't impressed but it was very nice looking and it sounded awewome.

No way an M5 will keep up from low end rolls, this car must get to about 35 40mph to make it a race. Most M5 drivers will admit the car is difficult to get moving. US models do not have LC so he likely will never get it working , LOL.

Be safe bro.

The M5 driver needs to have a few more practices on "roll" launches...

if you catch the M5 on the right gear and power band.. they'll keep up and will over take any stock E55 on the top end. But that means they have to drive the car like they stole it.

I disagree. E55>M5 throughout the powerband.

These rolls were at minimum 80MPH and the M5 looks like he is standing still:

Gear and speed is critical for any roll on contest. If I'm stuck in second at 25 MPH I'd be lucky to beat a mustang GT if its still in first. At 45 its a different story.

If the M5 was new he was only in P400 mode giving him only 400 hp. Once the M5 is taken in for servicing after reaching 1200 miles will the P500 mode and 507 hp be available, but like you said a kill is a kill.

I wanted to find an open spot on the freeway but it never happened. I've seen all the videos of M5s walking away at high speed, but I wanted to see for myself.

To tell you the truth I was very surprised after seeing all the M5/E55 videos here that I was able to pass and pull on him at any speed other than out of the hole. I don't understand someone racing their car before it is broken in, but I guess its possible. When we talked to him he acted like he hadn't had it that long so I assumed it was new and I know it was an E60. I had a lot more weight in my car than he did also. I guess the learning curve for driving an M5 is another advantage to the E55. When I let off I was still pulling away, it did not look like he would have ever caught me.

I would be the farm if he was in P400 he would have mentioned it...

Somewaht of a common outcome (the distance is abnormal - it should have been closer) for a low speed run against a M5.

Nice kill!

Sorry, I guess I should have prefaced it. It was during a road rally a few weeks back. I wanted some when we were lining up and let him know. He was pretty sure he was gonna spank me, so I said I'd see him on the road. We did not leave all at once and he was on of the first cars released. I was LAST. There was 30 seconds between each car, so it took me a while to catch him. I have all the footage, if you'd like, but what you should be seeing is an E55 pulling on an M5 at about 120 and then having a nice take off from 80, the E55 simply slides right by the M5 and is gone. Again, I have all the footage for your viewing pleasure. It is about 30gig total.
