2006 E63 AMG - UK Spec

Hi Guys,

New to the site, so I thought I would post a few things that has been bothering me regarding the E63 and hopefully all you expereince guys can answere them. Thanks in advance

I own a 2006 UK spec'ed E63 AMG and I would like to

Wheels
Remove the 18" wheels and put 20"'s on the car, however, I am told I cant do it without rolling the back arches. Is this true ?
If I wanted to do this, what would be required to be done, spacers ?, suspension mod etc.
Also, I see many E63's in the US with 20" wheels that look amazing, what has been done to your car to do this, I was looking at the 20" Brabus wheel
Do any of you guys have pictures that you could send me with E63's and 20" wheels ?

Suspension
I also own a 2006 BMW M5 and the handling of the M5 is 100% better than the E63, I am not keen on the air suspension and the auto leveling as it makes the car feel unstable at speed. Is there anything I can do about this ?

Brakes
These squeal BAD. Anything I can do ?

Power Upgrades
What can be done to the 63 which is not going to kill the bank and allow some power gains ?

Apart from the above I am loving the car

Thanks in advance for your responses !

Alan

One retort, do you really mean it is 100% better or just noticeably better. Will you elaborate on the handling so that we can understand what differences you are feeling?

Offsets are the determining factor whether you will be rolling the rear fenders or not. Having said that, make sure the rear wheel offsets are a minimum of 35mm.

...can go to 20" - watch out as has been said for offset and tyre combo's ... you cannot get more than 3mm out of rolling arches as they are already rolled quite a bit. personally think 20" are too big - and think 19's fit just right ... the low profile on 20's make the car quite harsh and esp on UK roads will buckle a rim for sure. They also dont help acceleration at all and handling is not helped much as the airmatic has limitations.

Suspension
Hmm... getting rid of air suspension is a big conversion ... might be better to get the car lowered first and see how she handles ... H&R have a great module. I dont think this car will handle like the M (even when lowered) and dont think it was intended to either - especially with airmatic. If you want better handling than the M, get a Porsche.

Brakes
... there is a fault report for brakes squealing - speak to your service advisor. Not sure what it is someone else can chime in. If u getting 20" wheels Brembo GT brake upgrade would be nice.

Power
~crank 30hp from ECU - various providers in UK already, mbe some headers would help too but dont know of any radical readily available bolt ons .. Vadim was looking into a S/C kit not sure where he is at ... Personally I think a small TT setup would be real nice... but dont know of anyone who has breathed on this motor yet.

Then there is always a shot of NOS...

Guys - Thanks for the responses

Sorry - I On the handling - The BMW M5 is alot more stiffer, harder, the car does not roll as much in the corners and I feel alot more confident to power on in a corner than I do in the 63. the setting seems soft (even on the hardest setting) -I appreciate that the 63 is not an all out racing car, more of a fast car with a bit of luxury, however i find even in a straight line i find the front end becoming a bit light and variable when powering on. I also have a 911 Turbo S which has been lowered by 30mm - i also appreciate that the 63 will never handle like this

Brakes - I will nip in to my dealer and se what they say

20" - thanks for the advice - much appreciated, when we talk about wheel and tyre combos could be more specific i.e. what makes of 20" and tyres could fit the 63, I have had a look at the Brabus wheels (3K each !) and the dealer tried one for me but he said it would not fit.

You will get a firmer ride once you get your car lowered, from what I recall the lower the car sits the firmer the suspension gets. The H&R module is very good.......I have a Kleemann lowering module and if you remove the label it is actually a H&R too.

You can definitely put 20's on the E63, the dealer probably doesn't know what he is doing?????......more than likely tried putting a 20" wheel with an S class offset on your E63!!! because he thinks that all 20" wheels are the same!!!

So to acheive what you want you will need to lower your car and get a set of 20" wheels from a reputable wheel company who understand offsets!! You should try HRE wheels........and also take advantage of the exchange rate!!!

20" - thanks for the advice - much appreciated, when we talk about wheel and tyre combos could be more specific i.e. what makes of 20" and tyres could fit the 63, I have had a look at the Brabus wheels (3K each !) and the dealer tried one for me but he said it would not fit.[/QUOTE]
