mod e55 or buy a c5 z06
Ive been pretty set on modding my e55 (k2 package, johnson pump and eventually a kleemann lsd) but ive recently been cruising around ebay and looking at c5 z06s and id rather do one or the other and not both. The only thing thats really making me lean to the c5 now is that i dont really want to throw my warrantee out of the window. Also if i mod the 55 now and hold off on the c5 ill hopefully be looking at 911 turbos further down the line. What would you guys do? Sorry for the ranting nature of this thread btw.

Have you ever driven a vette for a decent period of time? Some dont care for the ride or the way the car drives for a daily driver.Mods wise they can be made fast but so can the E55.
I'd rather have a C6 Z51 over a C5 Z06.Of course the C6 Z06 would be my first choice.

i actually havent driven the vette yet, but i think its probably one of the best deals on ebay now. I saw a couple for mid to low 20s in seemingly good condition. Im probably just going to mod the E, wait for a while before i get anything new.

I traded my 02 C5 Z06 with TPIS headers, high-flow cats, GHL cat-back exhaust, Halltech Sidewinder intake, and LS1-edit tuning for my 05 E55. Never looked back in regret. Once in a while, I'd think about rowing my own gears and having that unmistakable American V-8 growl, but it quickly passes.
A C5 Z06 is a great car, especially for the price.
Question - do you think that a C5 Z06 would be faster than your bone stock E55? Even after mods, my C5 didn't come close to what I am getting at the strip in my E.

Buy an 06 Z51. It is a better car than the C5 Z06. If you're willing to spend $40K, you can get a brand-new 08 with 430hp.
My two cars are a 2005 E55 wagon, which I love and a 2008 Z51 Corvette convertible (436HP -- I have the better exhaust). I love the E55, but it is still just a fast family car. The C6 is incredible. I had an 07 until last week when I traded for an 08. Even better.
Now mine wasn't $40K, as it is pretty loaded, but even a 05 C6 is better, in my opinion, then a C5 Z06. If you're looking at an early Z06, which you likely are for those prices, they have LESS power than the C6 and are much less refined.
Personally, I'd buy a Corvette. Having one even faster car isn't as much fun as two fast cars.
