Cold engine makeing noises
I recently got a 05 E55 w. 28k miles and I absolutely fell in love w. this car. Is it normal to make kinda like a whining noise when the engine is cold? I live in NJ and the weathers getting really cold, is it due to a cold engine? I don't think it's the belts but is it normal for the supercharge to make that noise? Also the roads here in Jersey are not pleasant but everytime I go over some bumps it makes this weird thumping noise from the passenger side rear wheel. I thought it was the spare bouncing but it's not that. Could it be the shocks? Can someone help me?

I can weigh in on this one, having driven somewhere around 10 different E55s and 2 CL55s at this point...even though much to my frustration I still don't own one.
But ya, they do that on cold-start. Each one I drove that had been sitting for a while makes a sound like a vacuum cleaner when it first starts up. The ones that had been run before I got there didn't make the noise.
If I had to guess, I'd say it's either some kind of warm-up routine for the supercharger, or these just have abnormally noisy auxiliary air pumps in the emissions control system. It goes away after a minute or so.
