Victor...Winter is long here...Car is in the garage waitng for some MODS (Cams 1st)...

If those heads make goood POWER then you will see my HEADS delivered by Aeroflot crew soon

I am not sure if M5/M6 will see my taillight...I know at least 1 m5 and 1 M6 here that are in Germany getting Bi-Kompressors installed...I guess you need to hurry up with TT kit

Jim...Dyno 1st without VRP Cams...We wanna know real results

Sorry Victor for this question about CAMS but I red many threads about this mod and feel now confused.

I know there are:
1- oem SLR cams
2- Kleemann Slr-style cams: are these exactly the same copy of n.1?
3- VRUS Slr-style cam 1st version: what difference with 1 and 2 ?
4- VRUS Slr-style cam 2nd version- in progress- : what are main differencies and/or expected performance outcomes?

would be enough an answer about point 4
thanks a lot

Hey Mike!

We already know that RFlow picked up 30rwhp and it moved up his torque curve by 40rwtq @ 4,000RPM..

Once Jim dynos the car we should have a good idea of how much more the heads provide.

- Kleemann cams are profiled after the Schrick stock cams.

- The SLR are slightly more aggressive than Schrick & Kleemann cams but not by much.

- I was originally making a copy of the SLR cams which were direct drop in but I cancelled that and went directly to a more aggressive profile.

The only cams that I have that are available are the more aggressive ones.. I only make 1 version of it and they make the most power I have seen so far out of all the cams out there.

The heads & cams have landed at Jim's MB dealer... Install will commence this afternoon or tomorrow morning...

The dealer will be taking pics of the install so we'll have a nice view into the installation procedure...

BTW... Forgot to mention.. Jim has one of the coolest MB dealers and service tech anyone can ask for... Go Ken Go!!!

Grazie !
so, SLR are direct drop-in but maybe expensive ... why you cancelled .. couldnt make cheaper? therefore now, no SLR aftermarket cams and no test at all with those

Hope your present version needs not to run an idle like Ferrari and the like ..

No no no.. It has nothing to do with expensive.. Making custom cams is a set price.. it doesnt matter what the specs are..

There was no point in copying SLR cam profile when there was still room for improved performance by altering the cam specs a little more. We measured piston-to-valve clearance and took some other measurements and determined we could get more power by modifying the specs.

What we ended up with is a cam that is slightly more lumpy than the SLR, more lift, more duration and change in LSA.

Our cars idle at 550RPM... On RFlow's car we raised the idle to 700RPM using STAR because during cold startups the car would hunt a little bit for idle. Nothing major...

Not quite ready yet . . . . but, I am dropping off the car with Vadim this Saturday for the heat exchanger upgrade. (Next one would probably be the 80 mm TB.)

Thanks for posting all the detailed photos on this project. This has been a very interesting thread to follow.

Congratulations on the new venture with Vadim.

Least I now have some info. Head gasket never showed from Benz.

Hopefully they show today and we can begin.

Soon as I know something, you guys will.

Pics should be taken as he does the install. Not sure how many he will take, but he should get some.

12:22pm Mountain update

Okay, it has begun. Everything is looking good.

Most likely will be done tomorrow PM (Friday).

My guys keep tripping over these cams Victor. Just can't believe how different they are from the SLR's. What the heck did you do to them???

HOWEVER, predicting major winter storm here tomorrow.

Might be only able to go down and start her and rev it a few times for you guys.

Cams!!!!

Oh yes .they are Different. I got a chance to look at them up close. They have the Lobes furnace brazed in placed to the hollow steel billet shaft .Then the final grind is done, then the induction harding process is done , Then they are QCed. I've looked at other aftermarket cams for AMG engines. I found that they used, press on lobes that are powered metal, & not brazed in place , but use a hydro form process to expand the shaft ( Which has to be thiner to expand properly) too mate tight to the lobes. And are not induction hardened. This other process(Hydroforming )is a great way to build proto types for testing , is inexpensive to made , BUT they (Lobes) can move out of their position , overtime or in extreme cold or overheat. Not what you would want to happen. Valves would collide with the pistons Now you know why a good cam cost a little more money The Specs are very proprietary , to VRP. and is a quality part. Don't forget to raise your in gear & park idle rpm. ___PTE___

Hey everyone, This is Ken, Jim's exclusive grease monkey! (I feel like a celebrity!) It's been over a year since I've browsed MBWorld, and I gotta say I'm impressed. This has got to be one of the most supportive sites I've ever seen. The knowledge base is great, you all have a fabulous resource here.

I'm just getting home, thought I would post some progress pics for Jim.

If I had more time I would host them for some better resolution, I'll let Mr Jim do that if he wants.

I gotta say, VRP is doing some great things, this kind of quality is rare these days, the machine work on the heads is first rate, and the cams.....OH MY GOD the cams. These things have so much duration there is going to be flames coming out of the exhaust!!! Its gonna be epic when this thing is done! Jim your my hero, I'm goin' in early tomarrow to finish her up! Goodnight all!
