2003 E55 or 2003 S55

I am really confused as to which of these two I should get. I am getting delivery around summer 2003 for either of the cars, and I am just not sure which of the two to get. Price is also a factor, is it worth the extra money for a S55? I am not sure of what to do. Your opinions would be a great help.

Hmmm......well, C32Rey, these cars don't have all that much in common IMO.
You shouldn't have too much difficulty figuring out which would best meet your needs.

The S55 is much heavier, slower, and handles less nimbly. It's more spacious, has more cache and makes more of an impression on the average bystander than the E55. The current S55 is much better appointed and luxurious than the outgoing (w210) E55, but the 211E55 closed the interior luxury gap considerably.

I think it's relatively easy to peg someone who is better suited to a 211E55 vs S55. If you really value interior space, trunk space, ability to make a bold curbside statement about luxury, and really don't value performance characteristics like handling and sheer acceleration all that much, you need to get an S55.

If the most important characteristics about a car are performance related, but you'd like to have this performance capacity wrapped up in a slick, luxurious sedan ultrastructure, then an E55 is the way to go.

In general, the M5 is first and foremost a great performance package, which has been stuffed into a luxurious sedan--while the E55 is a primarily a luxurious sedan which has been tuned to have great performance charcteristics.
The S55 is further away from the M5 down this same line....an even more luxurious sedan than the E55, but the performance capacities are also more muted than the E55 and greatly muted compared to the M5.

Bottom line: if luxe and space matter most, the S should get the nod. If pure sport driving pleasure is more important, the E.

I like big cars myself, if I had the money I'd go for the S55 in a heart beat. Bigger yet fast, but slower than E55, who cares if it is slower you'll still be able to beat most other sport cars out there with the S55.

E55 AMG
If money was not a factor, I'd pick the S55. I prefer the looks of the S-class over the new E. I've got a thing for super sedans and top of the line is top of the line.

But factoring in the money aspect, the E55 is the better value, better performer, and will provide greater driving fun.

If price is a factor, E55 is heck of alot cheaper than S55.

Re: 2003 E55 or 2003 S55

I would get the S55 just cause of the rear room. I saw a white one with black interior and picnic tables in the back and it was SICK. S is worth the extra money if u want a bigger car. if u dont then E55 is perfect.

What other cars do you have in the garage if any? If you have some other sports car, then no question go for the S55. The E55 is going to handle better, but it's not going to be some super slalom attacker either. Luxury car to luxury car, the S-class is always going to win. However, you have to choose your priorities.

Only advice I can consider is for you to thoroughly test drive both of these cars. Perhaps keep one overnight, if the dealer doesn't mind.

I own a 2001 E55, with just over 7000 miles on it. I am completely pleased with it's performance, and comfort (in that order). I believe I would reverse that order if I owned the S55.

FWIW, I definitely would enjoy owning the S55.

Have fun!

The E is a newer car basically it will have a lot more longevity than the S class in terms of styling as well as resale value. It all depends on how long you plan on keeping your car.

If price is not a facter then jump all over the S55. Es are nice but its still nothing compared to a nice S.
