Warning to Canadians buying a US car

My local dealer in Vancouver has informed me that MB will not extend a warranty on a US import. They will honor the original warranty if the car is certified for Canada (requires some modifications) but will not extend it beyond the normal warranty. A third party warranty may be available but very expensive. He was telling me to expect $ 6000 to $ 10,000 if you could find a company that will warranty an AMG vehicle but did not know of anyone that offered one. If you find an 3rd party warranty company -be cautious especially if it is cheap. The best alternative may be to invest some money into something with a good return and use it if you need a major repair.

It's true.. but its also true that if you buy any MB vehicle as a second owner that you cannot extend the orginal warranty either; even ones purchased here in Canada.

extending the warranty

Just got off the phone from my local dealer. There has been a recent change that allows any owner to purchase an extended warranty as long as they purchased the car from an authorized MB dealer in Canada and they purchased the car within 4 years or 80,000 km of the original date of mfg. or in service date (not sure which)

Yes as long as the car still has warranty it can be extended to 7 years 160km.
If you buy south of the border and the car still has a US warranty just take it to a US dealer for warranty work!
Remember MB is doing everything possible to make it difficult to import!
They can make it difficult but just not impossible!
