E55 Priced At $88,000 Per Car And Driver
According to the Car and Driver "E55 Preview" article I read at the local bookstore earlier today, the price of the E55 is to be $88,000. Same article as the one posted previously by Schvetkaaks, but with different price listed...very different price.
I looked and looked a second and third time.
That's by far the highest price I've seen among the many which have been printed/posted.
Hopefully it's a bad guess.
I don't see why anyone would want to buy an E55 for the same price as a new SL500---one of the most beautiful and desirable cars ever built IMO.

All these price estimates from Automotive press is now all over the map. The price and the 0-60 time for the E55 is really crazy now.![Big Grin](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
The "Base Price" was listed as $86,650 in Automobile (Dec 02) but may acatually have been "Price As Tested". If you look closely you can see that car also has:
Distronic $2,950
Keyless Go $1,015
Parktronic $1,035
and probably some other options like:
NAV ($2,250 est)
Phone with voice control ($1,995)
Drive Dynamic Seats ($1,150).

That price of $88k must be 'really' loaded.
A base price of $88k would be more than 60% increase over the E500 base of $54,850. Not going to happen.

Let us not forget that all the auto magazines predictions here in the States for the SL55 were way off . Motor Trend's estimate was off on the high end of about $20,000 for the SL55. I myself could not see a price of $88,000 for the new E55. Just look at the % base price increases of the new CL55(10%) & S55(6%) over the previous models. Not much room for pricing power in this economy.

Remebmer this. The price listed in the print edition could be a typo or an error and you can not change or correct that error on the already printed & circulated magazines.
The website is a different story. You can update, correct or change the price listed on the website at any time.
Let's hope there is a correction on the print edition.
