E63 - Warm Start-Ups

E63 - Warm Start-Ups
I noticed that if I let my car sit for a while, or even on cold starts-ups the engine jolts up to about +1500rpm pretty voilently. I almost hear it seem to ping for a second, it then settles to about 1k for the typical choke period or comes right down to +500 if it is already warm.
Is this just how this high performance engine starts? Its almost like its WOT for a sec, a gush of gas is sent into the engine before it settles.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
