I figure being able to run diagnostics and make changes with STAR would save a lot of people the hassle and $ of going to the dealer, especially now that many E55s are out of warranty. This is a lot of money though. Is there a cheaper solution? I have Ross-tech's VAG-COM software for my Audi that lets me pull any diagnostic codes and do things like key re-codings. Is there something similar for the E55 that has all the functionality of STAR (like lowering the car) without the huge price of actually buying the Mercedes STAR equipment? I would just want software to load on my own laptop and the necessary cable for the E55.

To any board member that buys one, I am very interested in the real world functionality of this unit. It almost sounds too good to be true. Do I understand correctly that this will do ECU, TCU and STAR?
