A few questions. Do you have kids? Do you have an SUV already? Last but not least, does your wife want an SUV or a car?
We had Cayenne S & my wife did not like it at all, believe it or not she liked the Touareg better & we ended up buying one. All a matter of personal taste i guess. I would say that if you do have kids & don't have an SUV, go for the ML 63. If you don't have kids or don't plan on having anytime soon, get the CLS.
In the end, it really comes down to what vehicle she likes. Has she driven all of them yet?

Well first...I still like the G-class....
But, since people are talking about the Touareg, I remember back when they first came out the dealer here had this limited-edition one with a twin-turbo V10 diesel that made some sick power number...560lb-ft of torque or some such and I don't remember the horsepower rating, but it wasn't shabby either.
That would be the one to get!

Then you would be equal to Allan Lambo and his henchman AJglobal.
I actually was thinking man that would be cool and quipped " I hope Rock get a CLS 63"
You Rock Rock, go buy an ML 63, and have a blast!

We do have a SUV (Xterra) that I drive when the weather gets really bad.
Her previous car was an FX45 that she liked but I think she likes the more agile nature of her IS350.

Rock loves MB and 55k engine, so Rock should like G55. If Rock wants something different for his life, Rock goes to P-dealer and picks NEW Turbo Cayenne or at least older Original Cayenne Turbo S (NOT Turbo with Powerkit)

Answering your questions first.......... Yes, I have older boys that have a car, so we only need to "bus" kids on occasion.

I'm sure she would like any of the cars I'm considering so I think the more important question to ask is, "What would Rock like?"

Well, I still can't see how you could possibly go wrong with the G55.
At 5.5sec, it's .7 slower to 60 than the ML, but considering the weight difference I don't think that's too bad. It's built like a tank and is just damned cool looking, whereas the ML is built like a car.

The CLS is spectacular looking, but less practical than the ML.
It boils down to "am I going to be cruising more, or am I going to be off-roading/hauling stuff."
Your lady must be pretty cool/capable to be able to handle that kind of power.
This choice dilemma: a good problem to have.
Good luck.

If you'll be driving it a lot then I can see why you'd want either one But then again, if you'll be driving it a lot then I would say M5. I loved my E55 but driving the M5 is actually what got me to where I wanted a sports car and sold my E55 for the 997S and now TT (already dropping hints to the wife a bout F430).
BTW, did you go to "my" dealer? If they are the ones who gave you that price go back and smack Chris Sanner and tell him it's from me.

Dave, that is always the most important question!! Is this really for you or her? If it's for her, do you really need the TT or ML AMG and it's associated upcharge? I never really understood the "performance" SUV thing, but that's just me.

G55
I think SUVs should be big. The Turbo and ML will burn more gas, and they don't have the cargo room. My wife drives a G55. I got it for here because it's big, black, powerful, and most importantly safe.
