Used E55, no Warranty
I'm looking to buy a used E55 03-05 under 50k, Are there any problems with these vehicles reliablity wise(never owned a MB). I would be moding it with the VRP 750 package. This will be a weekend car and only see 3-4k mi a year, I'd plan on keeping for 3-5 years. I do have a local Benz certified mechanic that charges about half what the dealer charges for service repair. I did perform a search and didn't find anything to sway me decision. Thanks

I would say go for it, many here will say don't own a Benz out of warranty, but I think that applies more to the daily drivers that need a car every day. The E55s have been holding up quite well. I have never been saved by any warranty so I don't hold them in high regard. Seems to me from your post you know what you want, and you will have many to choose from under $50K. Welcome and good luck shopping.

Thanks for your input, I'm trying to make a choice between the used e55 or the new 335i. I'd rather have the e55 but I don't want to fork out for a 40k motor. I'm gonna take a few more opinions before I make my choice.

The motor is pretty tough as it is an older design and not very strung out or high reving. It are all the other systems that can cost you money like the electronic gadgets and the air suspension if there are problems. I would find one with some warranty left so you can drive it for a while and get anything faulty replaced, then go for the heavy mods and never look back!
