I'm a bit biased, but the Volvo R AWD series (which were discontinued after '07 - great deals are out there) are great winter cars. With snows on they are almost unstoppable in the white stuff. And they're quick - esp the manual tranny - and chippable. Best seats on the market too IMO. Something to consider if you want something besides the ubiquitous BMW.
