Does the removal of a spare tire constitute "bone stock"? (sorry...I couldn't help myself after reading through this thread)

To keep this cut and dry to be "Bone Stock" 100% stock, etc... The car should be as it was delivered from the factory.

Sooo....do the 1/4 mile runs have to be using the factory specified tire pressure in order to be "bone stock"? Just as the spare tire removal was not as it left the factory...so to would the air being released from the tire constitute a removal from factory specification.

I hate to be persnickety...but I think some people may be getting my point....that no one runs there cars at the track to the exact specification as the car came from the factory. Bone stock is a relative term...if you are trying to use your definition of bone stock as the dividing line, proof that every run was run with factory spec tire pressure is necessary to ensure that a true "bone stock" comparison is being perfomed. Some may dismiss this point, but it will be because it doesn't suit their underlying motives.

when i say bone stock, its bone stock. The 2 people I had w me at the track took tire psi as we pulled into the track&noted them.Rears were 36psi,fronts were 37psi.05VENOM asked for my psi as he was unsure what to run,he can verify as well.
2 shakedown passes produced a 12.01& a 12.03.I let the car cool off for 10 minutes&ran 11.95. Then we took the spare out, etc, altered tire pressure etc and was unable to beat 11.95.

No air removal is up to the driver, he or she could remove as much or add as much as they like , simply note the pressure the time was attained at. Modern age street tires have a wide range of specs from 20psi for extreeme conditions(heavy rain, snow, slippery roads, to 51 for max performance. Going above or below could damage the tire, kill you and there is also a temperature spec. Does heating em up hotter make the car non- stock or stock on hot rubber???

The tire rec is simple, it is for safety and maximum performance.

Taking the spare out, eh...I dunno, it still tecnically is stock as the spare could be taken out absent of tools. It is not a permanant piece of the vehicle. Nor are the tools. Neither is required to opertate the vehicle to OEM spec. A car may or may not come with a spare. My old 55 had no spare.

Have you taken your CL65 to a track?

Sounds a little different from your "new" definition of "bone stock".

So wouldn't choice of air filter be up to the driver...or tire size...or anything else for that matter? It is a slippery slope once you start down this path.

oldgixxer:

I didn't mean to come off as targeting or doubting any of your previous runs. I just think that some people change the definition of "bone stock" when it suits them. Your car is amazingly fast (as is the driver) and I think your 11.95 run sounds about as stock as it gets.

I haven't taken it to the track yet. I have only had it for about 3 weeks. I haven't been to a track in about 8 years. I am more than curious to see what it can do.

Agree. Can deflate tire pressure and remove spare tire. Usually a bit of weight over the rears lets you get the best launch off the line. Can use highest octane fuel freely available to public obtained at a regular gas station. Driver can get on a diet.
Otherwise car should be as it left the factory. Removal of back seat and use of aviation fuel is not bone stock.

If I was still living up in NY (originally from Westchester) I would definitely let you take a pass or two. Although...the last time I was at the track 9 years ago, I let my friend take a pass in my 96' Mustang Cobra. He blew my tranny 60 feet into the run. I now remember it was 9 years ago because it was fixed under warranty (3 year/36K miles).

I know man, its a GREY area, thats why honesty works best. Let your peers judge whether your run is in a "stock " car or not.

It really all boils down to how difficult comparing cars even identical models can be when there is a void of detail. Best thing we can all do is simply list the conditions we run in and what condition the car we run is in.

Like I said to avoid any debate, interpretation, discussion . Stock= car unchanged from manufacturer's OEM specs. Tire pressure can be changed in accordance to your operating manual. Your operating manual is the guide for stock operation.
