Thanks--
But if you're looking to buy it, do as much research on the car and the seller as possible. And make sure you get a PPI ( Pre Purchase Inspection ) before you purchase it. I got mine from CarChex for $100 and it really took care of any doubts I had regarding the car and the seller when the inspector confirmed everything the seller advertised about the car.
"Note to California residents: This 2006 Mercedes-Benz E55 AMG Sport Sedan was reacquired from its original owner by Mercedes-Benz USA due to non-conformity associated with a warranty repair. Non-conformity - Warranty issue: "Check engine light is on." - Correction: "Performed DTB-P-B-14.30/15B, replaced air pump, relay, check valve, and front SAM control unit and coded SAM control unit." - Warranty issue: "Stereo routes all bass to front and mid speakers." - Correction: "Performed DTB-P-B-82.60/382, performed procedure 1 and 2 for audio gateway control unit software and version coded."- The vehicle has been thoroughly inspected and the non-conformities listed above have been corrected - Repaired by Mercedes-Benz!
Mercedes-Benz corrected non conformity under factory warranty and placed the car back in service. We have all paperwork from Mercedes-Benz to confirm the car meets all quality standards. Mercedes-Benz provided us with the disclosure of the issue, which you as the new owner will have to sign. CA law requires that a CA title be noted with a Manufacturer Buyback / Lemon Law Buyback. This process does not affect the factory warranty in any way and the car currently has the Full Balance of Mercedes-Benz Factory Warranty for 4 Years/50,000 miles valid until 12-30-2009 or 50,000 miles whichever occurs first. Further, car qualifies for extended warranty.
Under California Law, the manufacturer, Mercedes-Benz must warrant to you, for a one year period, that the vehicle is free of the problem(s) listed above.
IMPORTANT: Other states might not recognize the California buy back procedure and Title in your state may not have a Manufacturer Buyback / Lemon Law Buyback notation. Please call us or your local state DMV for more details."
Lemon + light in options + the fact it's E55 = close to impossible to resell unless you want to sell it at 50-60% market value or keep it until it dies.
I think you could get similar optioned, same year, similar mileage for high 50's (no CPO). So at $50-53K, it's not even a good deal.
If you like the color and options, I say make an offer of 45K and see what happens.

the dealers car was a lease return purchased from MBZ Finance--don't know what the history of the other cars are. the salesman said the dealer won't buy cars with suspect history's and that they need to pass a 150+ point inspection before resale. recognizing the self-serving sales pitch--there is a certain comfort factor buying from a dealer--if the price is right. dealer said he will deal--after all, the miles are higher than i really want. and i agree about the depreciation--values are dropping like a rock--one reason i let my 03 M5 go--that market is getting hammered too. i don't want it to be that much lower in value the day after i buy it.
thanks again.
