The single slot in the COMAND unit in EURO spec cars can play DVDs and mp3 and DVDs containing mp3s. I'm not sure if all US spec cars can (in some the slot is not a DVD reader, in others mp3s are not 'enabled" - a software issue.).
First try a commercial movie DVD in the single slot. If it works try burning a few (not hundreds) of mp3s to a DVD.
I think if you get the ipod kit installed it places a socket in the glove box.
