Our 4yr/50k miles is not up yet.
Your OEM warranty remains in effect until you reach your in-service date which is the date your car was offically sold by a dealer. The DC warranty takes over after that. Remember, the DC warranty is also based upon your cars original in-service date so if you bought a DC warranty today you end-up with dual coverage. For example if your original in-service date was 06/01/05 your OEM warranty would cease on 06/01/09 or 50K miles whichever came first. If you buy the 7-year DC warranty it too uses your original in-service date so your warranty is now extended until 06/01/11 or 85K miles (my plan) whichever comes first. In essence I bought three years and 56K miles of extra coverage for a reasonable price (see the quote above) that is transferable to a new owner. I probably won't keep my E55 until 2011 and will sell the car with a warranty which is a real plus to a new buyer, especially these cars. So, if you have several months remaining on your OEM warranty it doesn't make sense to buy the DC warranty now. Wait until you're within 35-40 days of its expiration and you have less than 48K miles to buy the DC warranty if that's your choice. The down side is it may cost you a few $$$$ more. I purchased mine with seven months remaining on my OEM warranty and saved $400.00. I also bought the same DC warranty coverage for my 04 CLK55 that had 30 days and 4,500 miles remaining on the OEM warranty for $2245.

So you mean to tell me I can get a DC warranty on my CLS instead of an MB? I will call Mike on this and check. If so, I need to get this right away!

For 24 months, the cost is $3,575 plus 20%, plus sales tax.

For 36 months, $4,880, plus 20%, plus sales tax.

I left a message for Mike at Daimler.

There is no tax or surcharge for the DC warranty. The quote you receive from Michael is what you pay.

Last Fall I started shopping for extended warranties for my 05 E55. This is the letter I got back from my dealer. I have blocked out their names for any privacy issues. Does anyone have any experience with this company or comments? This is what my dealer is offering so they obviously would have to work with them since I would continue to get my E55 serviced there.

Hello Rob,
We received your inquiry into extending the warranty on your 2005 Mercedes-Benz E55. We cannot extend the original factory warranty on the E55 since that option is available only to the original owner.

However, we can offer an extended warranty through another company that we work with, American Guardian. Through their "Compass" plan we can off these warranties as long as there is at least one month and 1,000 miles remaining on the original factory warranty. Also, since the E55 is an AMG model we will need a "special OK" from American Guardian, but I have factored that in the estimated numbers that are quoted below. Since the mileage accumulated on your E55 is so low, the quotes will use their minimum mileage of 50,000 miles total. The warranty is the Compass "Ultimate" plan, which is their best warranty and is an exclusionary warranty that covers everything except routine maintenance items, items that routinely need replacement (tires, brake pads, tires, etc), appearance items (chrome trim, wheelcovers, etc), and interior items such as upholstery, carpet and door handles.

The years listed would begin on the day you sign the extended warranty, and the the miles are what are reflected on your car's odometer.

3 year, 50,000 mile $2,284 (estimated at today's rates)
4 year, 50,000 mile $2,784 (estimated at today's rates)
5 year, 50,000 mile $2,814 (estimated at today's rates)
6 year, 50,000 mile $2,834 (estimated at today's rates)
7 year, 50,000 mile $2,889 (estimated at today's rates)

Thank you, Rob, and you can contact either myself or Jay XXXXXX at (XXX) XXX-XXXX with any additional questions.

Best regards,
John XXXXX

Just a quick update on my decision. I pulled the trigger on a DaimlerChrysler extended warranty today. Michael promptly emailed me back twice on questions I had. I went with the 7/50,000 with $0 deductable for $1390. I only have 5600 miles on the car right now. That gives me 3 more full years of coverage. Most of what I have read on the warranty has been very favorable. The name of the warranty can't hurt either. Now back to my movie.

First of all, thanks for starting this thread. It helped me decide to purchase the DC warranty. I do have one question. Is your math off on your example above? If the in-service date is 06/01/05 and you purchased the 7 year from DC wouldn't it expire on 06/01/12 vs. 06/01/11?

Resurrecting this thread for those who may have missed it. I just completed a successful warranty extension for my C280 with Michael. In addition to the stellar price quoted he handed out an additional discount for being a member of this forum. I did a great deal of research and by far the DC Warranty, offered by way of Michael, is the best on the net.

Folks, as a former certified Ford Lincoln Mercury service advisor who has worked with various extended warranty companies, I can highly recommend the DC warranty and EasyCare (Ford) extended warranties, which are administered by Ryan Warranty out of Chicago.

I bought an extended warranty through AAA which I am a member. I spoke with their warranty guy over the phone and paid the first payment on the warranty (it was a 12 month payment plan). My car was still under warranty at the time but expired about 2 weeks later. The next months payment came around and they didnt automatically deduct the payment from my card and they refunded the first payment a few days after the 2nd payment was due. I called the AAA warranty guy and he said they made a mistake and they dont insure AMG cars anymore. Now I am out of warranty and no other warranty company wants to sell me an extended warranty and AAA wont return my calls or emails they basically screwed me. Will any of the other warranty companies accept a car out of warranty?

Daimlerchrysler will do a extended warranty on your car even if its out of warranty. They will require a very simple inspection. Call Michael Case from some of the previous posts and he will hook you up. I just bought a warranty from him on a 04 e55 with 48k miles and was out of factory warranty. Let me know if you need any more info.

Real life experience w/ aftermarket warranties

Guys,
Just wanted to give some real-life (claims) experience with two of the co's mentioned in this thread.

#1 - AA Auto Warranty - for E55 AMG. Bought warranty, paid the full $2750, did not have a claim for 2 years. Sent in claim on the A/C unit + oil leak problem, they rejected it saying "your car is an AMG we should never have insured it". Went through the roof, went up the chain a few mgrs till I got a reasonable one, got claim paid for (partially, about $700 of the $1000).

I put the car up for sale now ($16K 1999 E55 mint/clean/58K miles/silver/black if you're interested), so cancelled the warranty, waiting for the refund check.

Mine was a unlimited years , 100,000 miles warranty. I was told they don't write that policy any more.

#2 - DaimlerChrysler - supposedly full coverage like poster above. Seat pump went on my S600 - couldn't operate the ortho seats any more etc - bill = $672. Rejected flat out as they don't cover this piece. They paid for claim of $500 on separate pump to make the A/C flow into the side vent (cant remember name of piece).

For what its worth...would guess any of these warranties cover on average 50-60% of claims, also labor rate of $55 covered much less than average of $90 most shops posting.

Aaron
