Jag XK- I lost a lot of respect for my brother...
So... my brother is P-whipped. He's gonna propose soon, and his girlfriend wants an XK, for some god forsaken reason. My brother is gonna be selling his car soon (06 CLS 500) and he doesnt really drive it everyday, he uses a minivan for work, he only drives his car at night. She drives his car a lot though, a lot. He told me that if he marries her soon he's gonna get an XK so she can drive it during the day so he can drive it at night. As opposed to the idea of spending more than $1 on a Jag and then actually driving it as I may be, its not my choice. The ****** has always had bad taste in cars. Always. Anything I should know about this car that can help me keep him leaning towards a CL or an M5? Did Ford fix any of the old Jag problems or did they just add their American problems to the list? Any info would help. Oh, and he's not thinking of getting an XKR, just an XK.
FYI: I posted this in the E55 section because I only care about what you guys have to say. And above, I actually used the * not letters. I learned my lesson with the probation.

XK won't be so bad if he pulls the OEM engine and installs one of these: http://www.fordracingparts.com/parts...KeyField=10261

Its a good car. XKR coupe is the one to get. Clarkson gives it a good wrap too. (not unusual as it is a English car)
See for yourself. Id have one.

Really?!?! I didn't know they cleaned up their act. And like I said before, my brothers too much of a **** (once again, * not letters) to get the faster version of any car, if the cls had a 320 engine standard thats probably what he'd have, so no XK for him. How much do XKs normally go for? hardtop/Convertible. Any problems I should know about? Any options that are a must? And as far as Clarksons views about cars go, I respect his views a lot, until he starts talking about British cars... He even said that even though the Aston DB7 (I think it was the 7) was a POS, he'd still get it cause it's an Aston.

It shouldn't be any skin off your nose if your brother (or his girlfriend) pick up an XK -- You don't have to drive it (or even ride in it).
I don't care for the new XF, which is why I wouldn't buy one -- doesn't mean other people shouldn't buy one.
To each their own.
Anyway, at the risk of being subject to your harsh comments, I have at 2004 XK8 convertible with about 24K miles on it. It's been a good car. No problems to date.

E55 then E63, now back to an E55
I believe the XK coupes are around 80-85, and 90-95 or so for a convertible. No problems that I am aware of. They look sharp and drive good. Cool touchscreen nav and push-button start (like ZO6) with key-dock in armrest. Fit and finish is nice - gauges, shifter, wood, door panels, glovebox, etc. Everyone I know with one absolutely loves it.
Last night, drove a naturally aspirated XF saloon and tonight a supercharged XF. - very nice as well.
Personally, I would get the most powerful engine available, not a base model.....
Get NAV, Vision package has a backup camera.....

My cousin used to have the old body XK8, he hated it, and I've always hated Jags (no offense, this is just how I fell and to each their own). And it matters to me because he takes my car a lot as it is because he doesnt want to put any more miles on his car than he already has. So I'll probably be driving the XK a lot. And in reply to A2S's comment about the XKR... read my other post about him being a **** when it comes to cars. The last nice car he drove was a 1986 Porsche 911 convertible, until he got a widebody kit for it and changed the bug eyes to slant nose... we stil have it, and I just replaced the slant nose with some original bug eyes.

And WTF to that price!!!! you could get a ZO6 for around that much, and dont give me that crap about this being a Jag, anyone with a pulse would get more enjoyment from a ZO6 than a Jag, even the XKR

The new XKR Coupe is a damn pretty car! It's no slouch either, I could think of worse cars to be driving.

Why worry about it? Ever seen or ridden in a Jag? The coachwork is absolutely beautiful. It's your brother's money so let him spend it any way he wants. Maybe he wants to make his future wife happy. I personally wouldn't buy a Jag but I won't knock someone who does. To each his own.

The new XK is awesome and built 100% aluminum like an airplane very cool. My brother in law has the XKR drop top and its nice however Jaguar needs to get a more powerful engine in these cars ASAP because compared to the competition it is underpowered. The paddles shift nice and the car rides good plus the OEM exhaust sounds killer. As for looks woman love Jaguars especially the XK so you can go wrong there.
The Jaguar line is much more reliable than BMW and Mercedes for sure
Only issue I see are the lease prices, because they dont lease out well when you can possibly get more car for the money from BMW.
My neighbor has a standard 2007 Xk Drop top and he has a 48 month lease, put down 7k and is paying $1500 month, this was 8 months ago when he got it, not worth it in my opinion for 300hp, the XKR are around 2k month on a lease when I called last year still too high
So if you can get a great deal for the wife go for it.

My first impressions of Tata owning Jag and Land Rover wasn't very good but after thinking about Ford being a cash strap company and Tata financially solid, it might be a good thing if Tata puts more money into the 2 brands than Ford could ever do. Time will only tell.
The 500HP XKR should be out probably in a year or so.
Here's the "Official" announcement yesterday: http://automotive.speedtv.com/articl...rover-for-23b/

just look under the hood. if you will find fomoco(ford motor company) parts then pass. Jaguar quaility is really bad, and Tata won't help Jaguar to do better.
