Brake squeal E55

My car is out of warrenty and this brake squeal is driving me nuts. Iv tryed hitting the brakes hard a few times but it only stops the squealing for a few mins then it comes back. What can I do to make this go away for good?

Go out and do several 60-0 power stops. Put an extreme cleaning on the rotors. Go out and do two more 60-0 runs. Clean 'em one more time and you should be good to go. keep things clean weekly.

I had the same problem with mine and it turned out that the caliper spring holding the pads in place was broken. Pics always help. Bottom pic is the old spring compared to the new one. I replaced all four. Very inexpensive.

I should obviously let the rotors cool down first before i clean them again or im gonna ruin them right.

I tryed doing this today and they keep squealing. Do you think if I change the front brake pads it will stop? Any other suggestions?

This might sound stupid but what does TSB mean?

Technical Service Bulletin..... usually offered by Mercedes as a fix for a flaw or a problem as it is discovered. There is one that was issued in July and December of 2007 for the E63s, but I'm sure there is one for the E55s as well.

My '06' has been to the dealer three times for brake squeal without success. Their lame excuse is that it's "normal" on the AMG cars with the big brakes. What a crock of you know what.

I've had great success on other cars using those spray on coatings that you spray on the back side of the pads. The next time I have the wheels off I'm going to give it a try unless someone on here has a better solution.

Brake squeal on a $90K car is not "normal". It's unacceptable.

Buy a different car. The truth is these brakes are always going to squeal because they create so much dust. I've had my pads changed twice and new rotors put on the front. Those worked for a few weeks but the squeal came back each time. The 60-0 runs work for a few days but in my opinion, it's not worth the pad wear to keep the sqealing down for a couple of days. To avoid embarrassment, always try to slow down next to a truck. That way everyone will think it's the truck, not the $90K vehicle.

The 63 brake squeal issue was almost completely eliminated with the new TSB released back in December. I think Mercedes installed revised pads and even rotors. Most people that have had lots of brake squeals on their 63s reported no problems after the TSB update. I'm wondering if these new revised pads would work on the 55s?

Do what the prior member said and replace those clips. They add pressure to the pads and do not let them sit flat, which makes them chatter.

Some brake squeal is normal, but loose clips make a horrendous sound while steadily slowing down. They are quiet at other times.

I would not swap E63 pads with E55 ones and I don't even think the calipers would take them. The rotor is the exact same dimensions, but the calipers are very different.

Anyone have a part number for those clips? How much do they go for?

I took mine to the dealer for the fuel filter module recall, there is also a recall on cats and they replaced the filter module and the cats.
I had them do a brake inspection, and they said my brakes are fine, I mentioned the squealing, my pads are at 60%. they were new 12K miles ago and I hammer them all the time to stop the noise.
I guess when the replace the pads and rotors I am going to look at options.
My friends E63 brakes squeak soooo bad from the rear and my new C300 does it too, even when the brakes are not applied at slow speeds.
Now, NOTHING is as bad as my non ceramic porsche GT3 brakes, man that was a squeal.
High performance brakes make noise, they stop really well, but make noise.
Who has options..

My brakes are quiet when they're cold. Once they warm up you can hear me coming to a stop a mile away.

You can also take the clips and bend extra flex into them. it just needs to be sprung and not loose when the shaft is in place.

dunno the part numbers, but I think I paid under $20 for all and some other washers

i dont have the problem on my E55...

for time to time I hear it on the C32.. but its very rare.

I suggest to lift your car and remove all your tires and inspect everything and clean everything with brake cleaner.

check for the spring.

Also check your rotors...and pads for damages.

Buying an E55 without warranty is very affortable now.. but can get very expensive.

Break Squeal 2006 E55

I have the same issue and it's my forth time to the dealer. This is the last time I take it as this appears to be normal? !

Do we have a master mechanic from AMG that can comment on this ??

Thanks
