Did you hear that Ed? Keep a set of the Polarg M80s on hold for me. Lol. WTF am I doing spending money?!?! I should be saving it!!!! WTF kind of car am I gonna get after this for anything near the price range?!?! But you can all rest assured that after I go back to HMS (hopefully after my finals, unless my ADD kicks in) there will be pics uploaded. I think it is gonna look beautiful after it's done.

I just got off the phone with a guy at Harbor Motor Sports. I asked the guy how much would it cost to lower a 2004 Mercedes E-class with airmatic suspension, he said "$400". I asked him what is done to lower the car, he said "It's a secret job". WTF?

I asked if he was the owner and he said yes. Maybe I called at the wrong time or number (714.265.0010)

O well.

He could have just left my car at that height and ordered them but instead used his own personal funds to make sure my car was ready. This was the final product:

I have to admit its nice though, the whole car as a package, especially with the yellow calipers. BTW... I hear that E55s come standard with 4 Brembo brakes, is this true? I know its the wrong place to ask- actually it isnt, I heard at HMS

The E55 calipers are made by brembo, but are not Brembos. They are a completely different spec as the GT series. Also, they are the same as any other OEM Brembo, like on the infinitis, etc.

Since I have never driven a car with added Brembos, idk... is it worth the money to upgrade the stock 55 brakes for Brembo brakes?

I dunno if I'd upgrade. Depends on what you want. The only way I'd upgrade is to get larger rotors, which will mean larger or at least custom rims. Even then, I dunno what we would gain. A pig is a pig and I can live with that. The main issue I've had with the OEM setup is heat soak, so i went with the lighter 2 piece rotors and Porterfield pads and like it better.

Are the GT calipers lighter than the OEM ones? If so, lighter calipers + lighter 2-pc rotors + larger rotors might be worth the upgrade, if you have the desire and $$. The reduced weight at the 4 corners will give you better response, especially if you added heavier 19s or 20s.

Trust me, I am all for handling, but keep this in mind. The replacement rotors are almost 35lbs lighter and that is unsprung weight. The GT calipers are likely lighter, but I dunno by how much. I could feel a major difference in my car from just the rotors (even on a launch or open road blast). If you have the money, sure but I just don't see that much more improvement to be had there without really gutting the setup. I just don't think the calipers are the weak link. Honestly, i love the braks on the car it is the 4K lbs that make it scary.

I never thought there was any need to upgrade, I always looked at people who upgraded to Brembos like they were crazy

As much as I hate to admit it, adding a braking kit would almost be like me thinking I can run any faster if I buy the cool running shoes. In the end, it becomes a wash because you have to add weight to get the bigger components under there.

For you AMG guys, it is a tougher call because you already have a nice setup. I would do what jangy did with the 2-pc rotors. For me with an e500, a BBK upgrade has a bit more merit. Then again, I promised myself not to go overboard with this car so a BBK is probably not in my future.

Well, I did consider that but it would have to be a great deal. This time around, I was just planning a couple of spoilers (roof and trunk), wheels, ELM and call it a day. I just don't have enough time and energy (and $$ ) to really play or else I'd start with an AMG.

Still, I thought to get the AMG brakes to fit, it was more than just calipers and rotors. There were a few more parts to swap in order to get it to fit on an e500.

It depends on the year E500 you have and the year the amg parts came from. The rest is just hoses and wires. I know 4 or 5 E500s that have done it and yes they did it because they got used sets CHEAP.

That is kind of an oxymoron, isnt it. They are Brembos. Just not Brembo GT. Just like the infinitis, evos are Brembos, just not Brembo GT.

Here are a few examples of stock 55 / 63 brakes with just paint and a Brembo logo. The stockers with Evo rotors work just fine IMO.

Ed... do you have everything I ordered when I was there last time (including a set of Polarg M80s)? Idk if I can come in the next couple of weeks or not (finals) but it'll be good to know if you have em, just incase I just lose my mind one day and decide to drive out... BTW, you open on Sundays?

Thanks Ed... Are you painting the sidemarkers that are already on my car? Or are you putting new already painted ones on? I want to keep mine incase I ever want to swap em back. Thanks
