This thread is great and kudos to those helping to unravel this crime. 
Just a thought though...since so many here including the crook(s) did not realize that whited-out plates (or anything for that matter) via computer could be revealed, I'm sure now will physically cover things up before any pics are taken; so it might have been better to have kept this little trick to yourselves and just provided the #'s without letting them know how you got the #'s and hopefully using it again to catch another unwary thief...again just a thought.
On the flipside this is a lesson for the honest folks to keep in mind that whiting things out via MS paint etc is NOT always permanent.

Wow, scammers in MB community, what are those low lives thinking? We drive MB's, we must be some sort of professionals in different fields, and as a matter of fact, we do have a handful of guru's here unfolding what were intentionally covered. I am notifying people @ evolutionm.net, nasioc.com, e90post, and couple NYC based Chinese online communities about this. I'm also following this thread as my money is on the d-bag getting his *** handed to him.

Haha, this thread just got better and better. I love how anyone within 50 miles of Boston has offered to go visit this d-bag. Also glad to see the Pirate4x4 guys here, as I stated before, they caught some kid on their forum in one of the most hilarious/entertaining threads ever.
An on topic question - since he's refunded the money, is there still a chance of pressing charges on him? I guess since it was fairly obvious that this WAS a scam attempt and I'd be my left nut that he can't prove this was going to be legitimate (just the fact that he probably doesn't own any sort of business is a dead giveaway), so could there still be charges pressed against him?

This is what the community is all about. Most of us hate thieves, we want justice to be done as he has ripped off others. If no one has got a run on the plates by Monday night let me know. I can mention this to some family members and my neighbor who respectively are in undercover, and FPD and should be able to get some info.
