2005 E55, 2004 E55(sold), 2001 Viper GTS, 2006 Viper VOI9, 1994 ZR-1 Corvette 2009 Viper ACR,
I know of an 04', with 156k on it. Car runs and looks like it has 35k, with no major problems to report since new.

I think it is more your car calture talking rather then actual state of car.
Car prices & period of time + miles on cars in the US are sily! for the prices they go for....you guys seem to have a fobiya for:
a. drinving the car past a set amount of miles
b. how old the car is and am talking 1-5years, which is not very old
c. your prices are dirt cheap ...am even considering dirt might be more expensive per tun
This is just an observation

Realistically yes, but last time it made it up to the upper 20's and he didn't let it go. It is safe to say it will make it in the mid 20's easily and he still won't let it go. Have to admit the car is clean and is optioned well..Pano and Keyless Go are the most desirable I think. Whoever buys it will need some extra cash laying around for a rainy day. The auction prices have softened a bit so it will be interesting to see what it brings in and if he lets it go this time.

Consumers in the US have a psychological problem with cars reaching or going over 100,000 miles. This was pounded into us by owning US made cars in the past that were on "borrowed time" once they reached 100k. Many engines started burning oil, valve guides wore out, camshaft lobes went flat, rings wore out, etc. Unfortunately this has carried over for many to present day and pulls the used market down. German and Japanese motors are just hitting their stride at 100K and can easily last 200-300K with nothing more than regular routine mainenance. Those that realize this are the ones who stand to gain.

u fail to mention that in German cars everything else other than the motor starts to fail after 100k miles. and if you think the kompressor V8 will last 300k with regular maintenance, ..

but engine fail on stock car?

It's pretty common knowledge that F/I engines last far less than the same engine would if it were N/A. That's probably the main drawback to F/I, to be honest.
The high pressures put more fatigue and stress on everything, the rings, valves, pistons, camshafts, etc. If it was driven gingerly, it might be a different story, but I think we all know that probably isn't the case with a high-performance car like an E55.
Although I guess a lot of it still has to do with how well the car is built, judging by how many 63 owners have been on here complaining about strange noises, knocking, ticking, etc, on a 20k mile motor. So there's no hard and fast rule, but even then you can bet that a F/I 63 motor would not last nearly as long as a N/A one. F/I definitely shortens the lifespan.

I dont know why he's trying to sell it now.... There is virtually no equity left in it.. I mean 125k, or 170k.. Would not change the value that much. Just keep driving it.

I agree with a lot of the above that it has to do with the way to take care of your car. With all the fiber optics and electrical crap the newer '03+ MB's make me quite scared. The W210's for example, I've owned 2 and my cousin has one, I ran my 97 E420 to 146k miles and my 01 E55 to 100k miles and they both ran like new and very easy to repair. My cousin has 214k miles on his 2000 E55 and it looks and runs better than a lot of the 30k mile similar W210's on the road that I've seen.
In the end, I'd also take it for $20k and just be prepared to spend the money where needed. Asking $29k is just .
