Midwest Meet (drag and drive) September 12/13th
To all,
After the outing we had on May 17th in Indiana, there was talk of wanting to get together and do a drive in early Fall. There were some that expressed interest in doing a Northern Michigan drive so this is my proposed idea:
Friday, September 12th: Meet in Martin, Michigan and go to the Knoll Gas (US 131 Motorsport) Test and Tune Night. This track is as nice as they come. Great track prep, never too busy, good people. After the Test and Tune we go to Grand Rapids (about a 30 minute drive north) and stay there over night. Grand Rapids is a nice town with lots to do if desired.
Saturday, September 13th: We leave Grand Rapids bright and early and head north along the lake shore all the way up to the Leelanau peninsula. The Leelanau peninsula and surounding areas offer beautiful driving roads with some small villages to stop at for rest, sightseeing, beverages, etc... These roads do not hold a candle to roads in Northern Cali but they are nice. After a long day of driving, we will stay the night in the Harbor Springs / Petoskey area.
Sunday, September 14th - Go home
If this is something you are interested in, let me know. If we get enough GUARANTEED participants, I will put this together and arrange everything.

I was just getting ready to post something like this! The only thing for us Chicago crew is that is REALLY far north. I was thinking up to Grand Rapids, then west along the Lake for a ride back. I might be up for it though, about 60% right now. Guess I better put new tires on now.

Sounds like fun! Wish I could go since I'm not too far from Grand Rapids, but I'll be in school by then. I was going to recommend you all stop by Traverse City since you mentioned north, but it looks like you already have that planned. Beautiful city and the drive along the bay is magnificent.
Oh well, have fun!

You would love this ride. I would even buy you your first gallon of gas for your wedding gift.

Now taking donations for "Nick's Gasoline Charity"!
And my sexy assistant just saw this, and she is down too. She will be bringing her husband and his C55.

Nick: Man up , if I can make it from Indianapolis, certainly you can make it from Chicago... If I only attended meets in my back yard, I would've been to all of zero up to now...

Believe it or not I have nothing going on in September. Count me in this time. By then the BS should be making at least 530 at the wheels and I'll also be running the Mickey Thompsons...look out!

I think it's time to start a a sign-up list. When we reach 8 cars, I will start making arrangements. If you sign-up, please PM me your email address so we can discuss details via email.
This is guaranteed fun...before the snow starts falling.

This sounds like a lot of fun. I think we should be up for it, but that's a LOT of driving... around 800 miles in one weekend might be a little much. We just went up to Door County over Memorial day weekend and that was about 4 hours each way, which I think is just the right amount. Don't get me wrong, I love driving, but 13 hours/800mi in 72 hours might be a bit excessive...
Jason, you are a nut. You will easily do 1000+mi that weekend, if you go all the way up north. In any event, if I can make it, I will at least make it to Grand Rapids.

I know it is a big commitment but I really think it would be a blast.

(but you asked for it)
Lapped traffic should yield to the lead lap racers -- not only is that "Racing 101", its just common curtousy, no "blocking" allowed, you know this.
Thanks in advance for your cooperation.

How about the Leelenau Penninsula or Old Mission Penninsula...twisties and wine go together real well Taking M-22 up the lakeshore is a beautiful ride as well. Just a thought. Are spouses invited also?

Of course! Bring your wife, girlfriend or both if you want. Yeah, I was thinking M-22 up through the Leelaenau Pennisula (Glen Arbor, Northport, Suttons Bay). Doing both would probably be too big of a day though. BTW, this is what you missed on Monday:
