05 e55 AMG? What should i do?
I was looking at an E55 AMG midnight blue, on ebay, and saw that it was a buyback. The price seems pretty decent a $35M, but i wasent sure. A guy whos a member in the forum used to own it, so i cantacted him and said the car is truely clean and the buyback reason was because of a bad strut. I live in texas and i dont think the buyback gets branded on the title here, but it will go on the vehicle history report, Although if i buy i will prob hold on to for a long time, so it doesnt really matter to me. Im just wondering what some of yalls thoughts are on the price and what not. Previous owner, (dragging something ruther), if you have anymore feedback on the car you used to own, any information of reasurrance would help. Thanks!

I agree with valdeztke, the first question is how it will affect the MB warranty...assuming you are still under 4years/50k, based on the in-service date.
If the warranty is void, the you are taking a bigger risk.
I checked out the listing, it says you still have warranty, you should confirm that with MB and see if they will sell you a 2 year extension. Also, the carfax has 21 records, buy that and review it.
Granted the price is right, but I would be leary, if you can drive the car do it, also ask the seller if you can have a MB dealer put the car through the CPO inspection process, this will not certify the car, but will give it a very complete check-up, it will cost you abou $400, well worth it if you find a major issue.
I just went on MBUSA and you could get a CPO 2005 e55 with 40k miles for low $40k's, the lowest is listed at $43k. Granted it may not be in your area, but most dealers will deal on any pre-owned they have in stock, maybe knock 10-15% off that price.
I would need to know how many owners and how many states this car has been in, and also if carfax calls out any red flags to give a better price. But IMO $35k is a little high.
The car has history, if they will not let you have it checked by a MB dealer, then no deal.
If you will keep it for a while, i would rather spend 5-10k more and get a great car with no history, the depreciation on these cars is huge, in 6 months they will be at or under $40k CPO at MB dealers. I am already seeing 2007 e63's out there in the very low $60's (MSRP $90k)
My advice after all of that would be to wait and buy a CPO car from a MB dealer, MB is expensive to fix to begin with, not to mention AMG.
Just my $.02

MBWorld Fanatic!
spend a little more and get a cpo - to me buyback is a bit scary. I had MBUSA buyback my E500 due to faulty tranny and just didn't feel the car solid after it sat at the dealer for 14 weeks. And it was more piece of mind that I was getting rid of a lemon.
