A different beast...

So...I absolutly LOVE getting in my car and driving it within the first 5 - 7 min of my day, that is before it warms up! My car feels like a completely different animal when the oil temp is still cool. I don't push it hard...but then again I don't have to because it's got 2x the get-up and go.

My thought is that this has to do with the computer retarding the timing once it gets warm.

If this is the case...would Phelonic Spacers...say from VRP...correct the issue to in theory make the car always feel like it does right when it wakes up...??

Anyone else have a similar experience?

I don't know, mang. I drive like a granny until the oil indicator light stops flashing then it's open season for any and all. j/k

Same here, I always wait for the oil indication to stop flashing. Oil temperature does make a huge difference on these motors. I'm still pondering the idea of an aftermarket oil cooler if it would yield cooler oil temperatures.

The car will pull timing depending on coolant temp as well as IAT - I've logged steps of about 3, 6.5, 9.5 degrees of retardation depending on various temp combos.

I just ordered the PTE thermostat to help keep the temps in check.

Any idea on if the VRP spacers will help this?

Chicago...what is a PTE thermostat?

I believe it makes the ECU trigger cooling at 90* rather than 100*

i almost always drive like a granny until my oil is nice and warm, but the few times i haven't (due to being in a rush), i will agree, that my car too is an angry beast in the mornings, not just engine, but transmission as well...

edit: because I wasn't being clear at all...

The CLS63 guys let their cars cool off until the oil temp hits 65 before making a run . As much heat soak as they have, seems like they would already have an intercooler?

The heat spacers we use separate the bottom half of the block from the top half.. The supercharger, intercooler, and surge tanks are all isolated.

With the addition of a good cooling upgrade, and the heat spacers it will help alot with the problems you are experiencing.

The 172 Thermostat helps to keep the ENGINE coolant cooler. If you have an isolated intercooler circuit, changing the thermostat is not going to do much to impact the IAT.

If you are running a shared intercooler coolant circuit then putting in the colder thermostat will help with IAT.

Victor,
Will you be working on an oil cooling solution for the 6.2L motor (M156) in the future?
