E55 Top Ten in AutoCar
The December 4, 2002 issue of AutoCar from Britain had the W211 E55 in it's top ten list along with the S320 CDI which the US will not get. They also commented on the 469 versus 493 HP dilemma we have been speculating on:
"Given that the torque figure is identical to that claimed for the near-identical engine in the SL55, S55 and CL55, it's likely that Merc (Mercedes) is being shy with its claim in the interest of maintaining the hierarchy, and the E55 will put out closer to the 493bhp claimed for the others."

Mmmm, they also raved about the S320Cdi, giving it 9/10, and calling it one of the most complete cars on the road.
Bit OTT, I thought. But 35 mpg is good for an express cruiser.
