E63 Wagon vs. Audi R8 (R8 gets smoked)
Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG wagon -- Audi R8
0–60: 4.0 seconds -- 0–60: 4.0 seconds
1/4: 12.5 @ 115 mph -- 1/4: 12.6 @ 113 mph

By CARandDriver "Picture it: You’re at the wheel of your brand-new R8. A black Benz E-class pulls up, and the driver puts down her phone long enough to toss you a sideways glance over her latte followed by a nod to the horizon. Surely, she jests. An E-class against an R8? This should be easy, you think. As the light turns green, you notice the “6.3” badge on the fender and hear wheelspin. Uh-oh.
You get on it with all four wheels gripping. Your ears are pinned back as you blast to 60 in four seconds flat, neck and neck with the Benz. You hit 100 mph, and what’s this? She’s pulling away! Then you start to get a view of the sheetmetal aft of the B-pillar: She’s in a station wagon! A quarter-mile later, she’s still pulling away. At 130 mph, are those her kids laughing in the rear-facing jump seats? Within 23.5 seconds, she’s at 150, 1.2 seconds before you. Mercedes’ seven-passenger station wagon will outaccelerate the R8 all the way to its 155-mph governor. And now the driver is probably back on her pink Razr to tell her BFF all about it."

No surprise. However, great track car the R8- though some manage to mess even that up

Major automakers just boggle my mind sometimes.
Audi was literally on the edge of creating one of the great supercars with that R8. That car is just mind blowing on looks, then to put power in it that doesn't match the looks just leaves me scratching my head wondering what the hell was happening in the boardroom at that meeting.
You make a car that looks like a jet fighter, YOU MAKE IT WITH THE POWER OF A JET FIGHTER.
Glad they are finally adding some more juice to her due to public outcry.
Leftlane broke the news that Audi would be fitting its R8 supercar with a V10 powerplant earlier this month, but we now have confirmation from Volkswagen’s head of powertrain development, Wolfgang Hatz, that the R8 will indeed receive V10 power.
Moreover, Hatz says that the V10 powerplant will not be the one that Audi was reportedly developing specifically for use in the R8. Instead, the R8 will get the same twin-turbo powerplant used in the Audi RS6 Avant. In RS6 Avant guise, the 5.2L engine produces 580 horsepower and 480 lb-ft of torque.

not even. my problem is they make a car thats worth 70k and sell it for 140k.
for that price, there are a ton of other cars id buy
M6 and keep the change
CLK 63BS
Porsche 997TT
Zr1
i could get 2 Z06s or get one and have it sent to lingenfelter and still have money left over.
face it. the r8 may be nice to some, but i think its downright ugly and sure as hell not worth anywhere near 130-140k.

I think the V10 version was always on the product map.
The V8 probably posed a lesser challenge in terms of cooling (as seen by the melted V10 R8 mule on the Nurburgring) and it's such a sweet motor in the RS4 so it's a no brainer.
The V10 just kicks it up a notch as Emeril likes to say - if the venerable Porsche 911 and even the Lamborghini Gallardo can come in different flavours and levels of intensity, then surely Audi has the right product strategy?

why in hell is the R8 that expensive in the US? In Germany it is just around 110k euros (which are a lot more dollars) but normally you guys get much better prices!

R8=160-170K not 140K the reason they charge that much is simple they can!
My E55 will smoke that E63 and that R8 **** even a lambo but id still take the R8 over any E55 anyday.
I just started researching the R8 (maybe my next car) but like someone said for the price there is alot of crazy options out there.( lime green G-spyder)

I'm sorry but I'm confused about the numbers? According to the vid both cars have a 0-60 of 4.0 seconds?
From what I've heard that's nowhere near true on either one of the cars.
And at the end the guy says that the numbers are worse than the original tests. Please shine some light on my confusion.

I agree completely....that cars didnt have to be INSANELY fast, but trapping ~115mph is not even competitive. It should have had 520hp and trap 122-125mhp. Not Zr1 terotory, but zo6 area.
to me, its a gorgeous chick car.

My comment wasnt about the comparison between the two cars. Itsjust that from what I've heard the 0-60 on both cars is a lot slower than 4.0 seconds. I remember hearing numbers between 4.3-4.5 for both cars. I may have heard wrong though.

I thought you were referring to the commentator's statement that "you'll notice we got slower times than before" but the quote in print was 4.0, so what was he smoking ? The implication being the times they got before were faster than 4
