Extended Warranty...what is the best one to get - 2004 e55
Folks,
I'm looking at purchasing an extended warranty for my 2004 e55...the factory warranty is no longer covering the car. Where should I look to get a good extended warranty for the car? Do I even need one? The car has 48K on it now.

warranty and e55 go hand in hand.
i purchased mine through Western General at the dealership - price was fair as their is room to haggle.

I purchased mine from Daimler/Chrysler but my factory warranty is still in effect. Since your factory warranty has lapsed, you may have to look elsewhere.

My dealer is selling ones from http://www.fidelitywarrantyservices.com The finance guy told me they shopped around for the best there is because they want to take care of their customers. I bought one, but only in June 2008 and I have not needed anything done to test it.

I would go ask your service rep or whomever is performing repairs, which aftermarket warranty company is the least to hassle with. Mine told me D/C as they never give him any problems with claims.

I talked to my dealer today (American Service Center, Arlington VA) and they have one called "easy care warranty" that is for the AMG cars, I didn't by my car from them...they claim that most warranties won't cover AMG cars...well, whatever.
They ran the vin and gave me 4 levels of coverage:
Power Care - Engine and Trans
Primary Care - AC, Fuel system, heating system, brakes, engine and trans
Stated Care - even more stuff, (I started to not pay attention!)
Total Care - Everything from below, loaners cars, towing, wheel replacement.
I asked for the price on the Total Care - for my 04 e55 with 52K on it, a 3 year 36K mile warranty was $4671

I research it and can up with the conclusion that thats about the average for a top warranty. And really can you have anything less. NO because they probably wont pay due to the fact that when something breaks its probably the part they dont cover.
I have always had a bad experience with them. So I did common repairs list and what they cost. I am going to put 5000 dollar to the side and consider that my warranty. Best part about my warranty is that its refundable at the end of the term and I am the mechanic that gets paid for most repairs.
Maybe not a great Idea but its an Idea!

I went with Western General also through my dealer, stay away from Easycare as all the dealers in my area (south fla) have dropped them due to not paying claims.

In these times, your most important consideration should be the ability for your warranty company to 1) pay claims and 2) be around for the term of your warranty.
If your car is under OEM warranty still and you are considering an extended, I would buy the one backed by your manufacturer.

My dealership uses CNA. I have an email to the finance guy at the dealership with costs etc. They say CNA is pretty worry free and have paid out many claims. They are a bit more on the expensive side though. I will post back when I get prices from the dealership.
FYI - as stated before, SNA is only available through a new car dealer where you bought the car from. So its pseudo after-market I guess - you can not buy a CNA warrenty unless you got your car from a deaelrship who uses CNA. On the plus side, if you did buy from such a dealership and pay for the CNA warranty, claims seem to get paid out very quickly and well from what I hear from service advisor.
