what should i do

nail in tire. Inbetween sidewall and first groove. Too close to sidewall to patch? Falken 452. 305-25-20 $375 for the tire plus install etc...
My tires only have 5k miles on them

Any advice? Am I just stuck buying a new one or should I try to patch? Merc says replace cause so close to the wall and the tire bends a lot there. At almost $400 I would rather buy Mich ps2 but isnt it a bad idea to mix tires?

this your rear tire? you have 5k miles on them? if it were me, i would buy a new set of rears and i definitely would not mix them.

This just happened to me a month ago (front). I bit the bullet b/c they had 1/2 tread life left and replaced both. My 2 cents, pictured a blowout at 100mph+ and it wasn't pretty.

5k miles is maybe 1/3 to 1/2 of the life of the tire. that's pretty significant wear in my opinion. i would just change both and keep the extra just in case this happens again.

I have to agree with Kram on this one, nothing like fresh rubber. This is why I use the Kumho tires that are half the price of PS2s. I have found that most low profile tires get noisy at 7-9K miles and start to show wear patterns, and with a staggered set up, new rubber is the only remedy.
