brother's stock E55 v. my modded SRT8

You guys don't know what an animal you have I've always been envious of m brother's E55 since he got it, the power -- out of the box -- is unreal.

Before I did some engine work, he would blow my doors off any time we raced. So, I had to close the gap, and went with a mild cam and stage1 heads for my SRT8. After a dyno tune, I put down 440whp/425wtq.

A few weeks ago, I decided to make a few runs with my brother ("on a closed course"). I can actually take him from the dig, but he catches up, and once we hit about 90 (hypothetically . . .) he starts to pull on me slowly. His car is a little faster, but it's a LOT closer than it was. Gotta love those E55's

In the first video, we go from a roll. He has two people, I have one. Second video, from a dig. He has one person, and I have two.

what i envy about you srt8 guys (besides the $/hp) is the way the aftermarket community really stepped up in such a short amount of time. we've got 3+ years on you guys and still don't have an adjustable tune like your diable/predator. for the most part we have to send our ecu's off to someone and hope they guess right!

+1. The aftermarket is huge for the hemi 5.7 and 6.1. From heads to turbocharges. Prices are to be envy too. Never will I understand the mark up on parts for a benz.

OP great run. What else do you have? long tubes?

They do make a lot of parts for the hemis, which is nice. But, the weakest link on the SRT's is the "half-shafts". With a good launch, they can easily snap. There are aftermarket axles by DSS, good for 1000hp, but they're around $3k.

I don't have any type of exhaust, or headers. Just an intake, stage one heads/cam, and a good dyno tune. I have the power, I just need to work on the traction. I'm running the Vredesteins, and haven't been to the track with them, but as you can see in the video -- they launch pretty darn well. I can't wait for Moroso to open in October! Thanks for the comments guys

Yes guys... my bro's car is a force to be dealt with. I'm only able race him with my traction on and it still cuts the power a little off the line which gives him a slight edge when running from a dig. From a 40mph roll, I'll start pulling on him around 90-100.

I believe it's time for me to do some performance mods .

Traction is my main problem, SC won't fix that. I'd get a SC eventually, but it's pretty quick as-is. I would get mods that would help my traction before dropping ~$8k on a SC and everything involved with it. This is my daily driver, too.

I haven't seen this problem too often with the SRT8s on the track, but you should probably stay on the safe side and invest in those axles because you don't want them to snap while you're going down the track.

Awesome videos by the way

i've seen it happen twice on moderately modded srt8's with d/r's. not likely to happen to stockers or ones with only a mild hp increase though.

Haha, I was going to write the same thing...too many times I come across race videos with the windows down.

The potential for these domestics is incredible. 440 at the wheels from some light engine work...excellent gains.

I watched the videos, before checking here..

I did notice the E55 would start pulling away at a certain point...

You have the higher hp by about 30RWHP or so, but you are down on the torque roughly the same amount 30RWTQ.

but for just having a Intake, Tune, Head and Cams.. not bad.

That would be great. Diablo programmers have had great results on the LX platforms. All for under 500 dollars.

It’s still proprietary, no doubt.

We can only hope that someday it’ll trickle down to us common folk.
