Common E55 Problems? How to check?

Hello,

I searched the forums and saw alot of mix reviews for this car. I would like to know some things:

I researched that some common E55 problems are

- supercharger chirp? [this is the pullies?]
- intercooler pump
- alignment
- acceleration jerk
- heatsoaking
- weird blowing sound out of muffler
- maf problem
- ecu shuts off supercharger after hardpulls or sitting in traffic (when does it turn it back on?)

How do I check for these problems?

Exactly how common are these problems? Some people say their 03s never had a problem ever, while some people in 03s or even 05s have tons of problems. How reliable are these cars?

Thanks

The supercharger chirp is normal as is a slight jerk on engagement. I have had 3 blown AMG's and this adds to the experience and is no way a problem. There is a newer clutch design from '07 and on that reduces this by softening engagement.

The intercooler pumps do fail but are an easy upgrade to a better one at $130. Search for Johnson CM030.

The alignment on all Benzes can get involved and can require the addition of adjustment bolts which can get pricy. The solution is to find a good indy shop.

Never had a heat soak issue burt I am not a drag racer. I do however live in heat.

Never heard of an issue with odd sounds from mufflers.

The E55 does not have a MAF.

The supercharger shutdown is due to temp and will turn back on when the temp returns to normal. This has been an issue when it gets really hot and you are stoplight racing or under heavy extended loads. The "fix" is to upgrade the heat exchanger. With my pump and heat exchanger, I have NEVER had my SC shutdown.

I have not heard of any year specific issues and in most areas, these cars are rock solid with only the usually little issues that one would expect from a car this complex.

Johnson CM030

I've read all of the info here and still didn't find anything that could help me with my issues. I'm currently getting a P0410 Code, secondary air injection pump and also another code for the temperature below thermostat temperature. If anyone knows where I can start I would really appreciate it. I've been told to check the SC, but when you turn on the car the belt is spinning and the SC is spinning as well. When reving the engine to go above 2200rpm the belt starts spinning faster then the SC. I was told that its magnet activated, when reving above 2200rpm then the SC kicks in and should start spiining forceably fast. But like I've described thats not whats happening in my case. Does it activate while in Parking gear or only if you are driving. B/c when in P it only goes up to 3800rpm.
Also that temp issue is odd, b/c I've recently replaced the thermostat and getting this code. All suggestions will be appreciated.
Also where is this Johnson CM030 can be purchased. Looked all over the web and didn't find anything.

Do you realize you are replying to very old threads? Your mechanic may be right, but search "conductor plate" first.
