STAR Help

Can any board members explain in detail how to do the follwing STAR Modifications:

1. Process for Lowering the Cooling Fan Activation 10 degrees lower as many have done on this board. Actual step by step process as I need to pass this info onto my MB Tech.

2. Process to Eliminate the stupid Keyless Go Chime

3. Process to Lower the car slightly as I am only looking for approximately 1/2 - 3/4 inch drop. Would welcome opinions as too what works or should I bite the bullet and just get a used Renntech/Brabus/Kleemann/etc used LM???

4. Process to Eliminate Seat Belt Chime

Any help very much appreciated and thank you in advance for your time and considerations. Kindest personal regards, Joseph

Bro, it won't happen. That is a competitive edge that nobody will give up right now. Even many MB Techs that use STAR on a routine basis don't get trained on the many mods that we like, so when someone learns to do it in a timely manner they keep it to sell.

Hopefully, that will change soon as more and more enthusiasts are getting access to STAR or alternatives.

Actually, it may end up being On Topic. I don't think we'll get too many DIY posts in this one unless it is the members getting involved and learning.

That mod (and most fun ones) are not available on a typical menu at your friendly neighbor MB service department so you will need to find someone willing to do it on the side or that has a STAR in his own shop. They are starting to pop up in SoCal. Heyvon Motors has an MB master tech with a new star setup. the works. VRP also has access to the star. If you want to hit up the dealership, ask your SA (you never know) or try the mobile techs, they get a mobile star to travel with. You could always get lucky and get that mod cheap.

Cost on STAR mods is variable, but around $300 to get in. Once connected, etc. you can do a load of mods quickly, IF the tech knows what they are doing. It is 100% labor, so you are looking at their time.

Thanks for the Info

Jangy thank you for the reply, I have a MB Tech to do it but he is a rookie and does not want to try to change anything... I personally thought it would be a 5 -6 step programming change and obviously no big deal, but as usual I must be wrong... Best regards, Joseph

+1, Star lowing is very complex.

I will get you instructions on the the cooling fan mod. Tech can do that in secs.

Chime for Keyless and Seatbelt I will check out on my Star.

Obviously lowering the car is a big undertaking and very complex, but the three other mods seem like rather simple procedures ( my assumption but you know what they say about *** sume... ) Turning off chimes and telling the fan to start at a lower temperature point?

Mark is right about the time involved in lowering. Like I said before, it is all about the time it takes. I've watched it be done in 20 minutes and I've watched taking all day just to get it perfect. Once you have done a particular model, you learn what it likes and how much to play.

Other mods: I hate that the headrest moves when I move my car so I like it off. I also like to turn off the side marker lights so I don't have to fake the computer or put carpet over the bulbs. The chimes, but it will turn off all the chimes.

Okay, here is the step by step for ya

In Star have the tech go to Main Groups then click Control Unit Groups the click Drive, then click ME SFI Motor Electronics, then Control Unit Adaptations, then Correction Programming, then Electric Suction For Engine or Air Cond.

The screen will look like below.

***Very important. You want to INCREASE the value up to it's max by clicking F5 until screen says "reached it's maximum". This will allow the fan to come on sooner. If you decrease the value on the screen, the fan will come on later in temp.

All done.

Thank you!!!

Jakpro1 "Thank you very much", it is greatly appreciated!!! I like the idea of my fan kicking in a lower temperature!!! I do not see any downsides to that simple modification... Especially since you can fry eggs on these motors even after a short drive... Kindest personal regards, Joseph

Now if I can get those damn chimes to be silenced I will be a happy Keyless go driver... I dont mind the Seat belt chime as I always drive with it on, but the chimes on the Keyless go drives me crazy...

Hey no problem Smithtown... I live in the Smithtown Pines area... I am hoping to borrow the STAR unit from a friend. Once I get all the programming instructions I will ask to borrow the unit and I will help anyone who wants the same mods... I do not plan to attempt the lowering unless someone really can send me all the details and pitfalls. I have been chasing used Renntech LMs but really want the version 2 not version 1.

Best regards, Joseph
