BMW E39 M5 to E63

Anyone here come from an E39 M5?

I am considering parting with my beloved E39 M5 for and E63 and I am curious about any other owners thoughts who may have done the same.

I think the E39 M5 is, by far, the best vehicle I have ever owned but she is getting old, starting to look old, and my second extended warranty is about to run out.

Bought an E60 M5 in 2006 to replace it but hated it and sold it within 6 months and kept the E39 M5. Now I am considering trading in the E39 M5 for a new E63 MB.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

The E63 is awsome, you will not be disapointed. I would love to upgrade one day.

Why did you not like the E60 M5?

let me ask you what made you trade in your E60 M5? Was it the handling, power or driveablity.
The BMW will feel more connected to the ground as compared to the E63. On the other hand the power of the E63 will impress you very much.
I just migrated from a E39 non M car (keep in mind i had coilovers and sway bars) that is why i felt the E39 handles a tad bit better than my E55.

E39 M5->Porsche cayenne turbo->07 E63.
I loved M5 and agree it was one of the best car I owned. I did not like Cayenne Turbo at all. E63 has been great for me. Handling is not as great as M5 but the power is great!. I think you will be happy with E63. I test drove E60 M5 but I did not like the SMG(too harsh for me).

Overall, I just did not like the car. Hated SMG, I-Drive, lack of low end torque, and horrible fuel mileage combined with a really small fuel tank.

As far as i am concerned the E60 is not half the car the E39 was as far as a daily driver is concerned.

Funny the other car I was considering was a Cayenne GTS but I drove a Turbo S this weekend and wasn't very impressed. It just didn't "fit" if you know what i mean. Wierd considering I own three Porsche 911's.

Have you considered keeping the M5 as a second car/beater. They are probably going to hose you on the trade. As good as the E63 is they are two different animals. Just a warning, and I can assure you of this... as soon as you get rid of it you'll be missing rowing through those 6 gears especially 3rd. I am biased towards the E39 M5 for some reason...I am hoping to add a E55 or 63 to the pack one day, but never at the cost of selling the M5, its had its problems but still manages to put a smile on my face everytime...

I agree, but I have a lot of cars and keeping another does not make much sense for me.

While I love the E39 it is no longer practical as my daily driver no matter how much I love it. My second warranty just ran out and there are quite a few issues popping up that can get expensive and time consuming to repair. Since I drive a lot and rely on my car to be dependable a 6 year old car just does not cut it for me anymore.

Plus she is worn pretty hard as any 6 year old NYC area daily driver would be.

I will have to rely on my 997 Turbo for my 3rd gear fix!

As long as there is a car with a manual transmission in the stable you are alright..It may not be bad having an automatic for a daily driver...
