Okay, were did I think the CPO warranty was for seven years or 100k? Is it true that it's only for 12months after the regular warranty drops off or 100k which ever comes first? If so can it be extended?

A CPO vehicle purchased from a MB dealer comes with an additional 1 year warranty up to 100K miles. 2 additional years can be added (purchased), giving it a 7 year, 100K mile warranty from the inservice date.

Do a search, many people (including myself) recommend DaimlerChrysler Extended Warranties.

It's better to renew your warranty before the original warranty expires, as some companies actually increase their prices when you delay renewal. Also, some companies require that the vehicle has at least 5,000 miles before the original warranty is about to run out.
