Satellite Radio Help

I just bought a '06 CLS500, and it has NAV but no Satellite radio. I wasn't concerned until I took it into the dealer to get it serviced and inspected. The cost to get satellite radio installed is $1,600+!!!

I really want this option, so what is the best way to upgrade? I guess the '05's and above don't come prewired. I would like to use the Command system for SAT, and for it to be as factory as possible. Should I buy the hardware and have it installed by an independent? Should I get an aftermarket unit?

Any help is appreciated. Oh, and I did use the search but it was a little confusing as most of the info was for earlier years. And yes, I know this isn't the CLS forum, but no one ever looks/responds to that one.

Thanks!

Thanks for the info. It's really frustrating that it's so expensive to have this option retrofitted into the car. I was thinking it would be a couple of hundred dollars.

If you think that's bad, try having all the necessary parts and pieces added for hands free/bluetooth phone when your car came with nothing!! A good friend just bought his wife a 2006 S430 that needed "the works". The local MB dealer quoted them $2,200.00!!! She's living with an ear-bud instead.

Everything in this car runs on a computer bus, so the satellite radio has to plug into that. If you want it integrated into COMAND, it will simply be expensive.

That said, you could:
- Shop different dealers and see if pricing varies
- Plug an aftermarket Sirius tuner into AUX input (but the AUX input if not already in the car is probably also expensive, and then you have to tune from the aftermarket piece...)

No easy way, I think.
