E55 mechanical differences
E55 mechanical differences
Hi guys.
I am in the market for a 2003-2005 E55 AMG. So far I'm trying to do some research and have already collected some great info on the site.
However, I'm still trying to figure out what are the "mechanical differences" of the E55 AMG models compared to the standard E350 and E500. Other than the supercharger and the larger displacement motor, what else is different?
Is the difference mainly in the power-train?
As for the suspension, does the E55 have air-struts on all four corners, or is it only in the rear? As for the anti-sway bar, are there any upgrades available?
Thanks in advance!

I'll try this one...others will chime in when they wake up.
Other than the supercharger, you will get the rest of the AMG package which consists of upgraded brakes for sure. I've never owned the E350 or E500, but I did drive some E350s as loaners. I don't remember the E350 having a manual transmission mode...was comfort or sport only....and no paddle shifters. I would imaging other components are upgraded as well to utilize the increase in horsepower and torque...but I am not sure what they are.
Hope that helps...some.

Sway bar, I think one member here (Jangy) changed one out or changed bushings, there are other suspension mods (ELM, toe links & camber kits) that are far more important than the sway bar.
