CLS63 or 996tt & w210 E55
Hey guys,
I need some advice on choosing a car. My goal is to have a sporty handling and fast daily driver that can also accommodate taking my kids to school. I currently have a E55k, which I am selling to help fund the purchase of the new car.
As my daily driver I was originally considering CL65's and CLS55's and have come to conclusion that neither is the right one. After I drove a CLS63 w/ 030 pkg, I fell in love with combo of NA motor and the 7-speed transmission. I like the smoothness and higher rev nature of the 63 vs 55 motor. If I go with the CLS63, it will be a very low mileage 07-08 and my only car (daily driver and fun car).
For my sporty car, I was originally going to buy a SL55, but the handling was a disappointment after I drove a friend's 996 turbo, so I am now considering a 996tt as the weekend play toy. The 996 turbo will most likely be a 02 or 03, which are selling in the $50-60's. However, if I sell my E55 to buy a 996 turbo, I will need a 4-door daily driver. I am considering buying a w210 e55 for daily duty.
So, which option would you guys choose?
1. CLS63 with 030 performance package
or
2. Both a 996 twin turbo and w210 e55
Thanks for the help

05' E55 AMG
Honestly, I love the 996tt, alot of people say they drive like crap. They are light and have good power especially if you find one with X50 pkg. I dont really like the w210 E55...Have you considered last gen. M3 or maybe 335i four door, I dont know I just dont like the W210. But if your stuck on that exact combination with the 996tt...I would get the CLS 63, it sounds sick handles great, comfortable, fits four in style, and is probably still covered under warranty!!!

The 210 E55 is a great car, as is the TT....depends upon how you value bells and whistles, as the CLS63 will have more than either of the cars you're talking about....I would think that with the air suspension, it would offer a better ride than the E55, although on the flip side the E might feel a bit more nimble due to its substantially lighter weight (as I recall, they came in at about 3700 pounds or so, 5-600 pounds lighter than the CLS55/63).
I'd just make arrangements to spend the better part of a Saturday driving each one, and beforehand make yourself a little checklist of the gotta-haves, liketa-haves, and don't-wanna-haves in a car...check them off when you finish, and go from there. Also consider that while two cars are better than one, you'll have two cars' worth of depreciation, repairs, and insurance....
Lot of factors to weigh, best of luck whatever you decide!
