Which 255/xx/18 on stock 18s?
I'm looking to replace the Conti 3s on my '06 E55 at some point...staying with stock wheels.
I've been reading the tire threads in the archives and gaining a lot of info but have one question unanswered...
I want the PS2 and also want to upsize a bit with 275/35/18s (25.6" OD) in the rear. I see recommendations to go to 255 up front but which one??
The PS2s are available in 255/35/18 (25.2" OD) and 255/40/18 (26.0" OD). Each has a higher load rating than the stock size PS2.
With stock sizes, the fronts are 0.4" taller...so should I chose the taller 255s so as to keep the fronts taller in relation to the rears?
Also, will these changes adversely affect ESP?
Thanks in advance.

Going bigger on the rolling diameter will make ESP kick in sooner, since it exaggerates any input.
I would recommend buying a set of rear rims and going with 275s all around.
If staying OEM, get 255/35.....40 is too tall.
E55 rims are 8 inch fronts. E63 rims are 8.5s.
