IC Pump for a Noob

Hey guys,

I just picked up my E55 a few days ago and the car is fast but sometimes it doesn't feel "as fast".

I searched the forum and I couldn't seem to find a good way to find out if the pump is working besides the possibly a dyno

So basically no codes would be thrown when the IC pump...?

I haven't driven any other E55's besides the one I bought so I can't exactly tell if the car is running to its potential

Scanning your IATs will tell you lots. If the pump were not working, you'd have full out shut off of the SC and the differnce is HUGE. On the other hand, if you are just testing your cooling capacity you may just be getting heated. I'd monitor the heat and decide if you want to mod the car. If so, then you need to consider a cooling system. If not, consider upgrading current components. More robust pumps cost about $200 and you can replace or add to your OEM Heat Exchanger.

If the car is under warranty, go get a new pump since they have at least been updated.

Hey thanks for the reply. My car's an 04 so unfortunately I'm out of warranty.

Can you tell me what IAT is and how I can scan it? I do remember popping the hood today and revving the car and could not really seperate the sound of the engine and the whine of the supercharger...I had check out a couple dyno videos on youtube and it seemed like the supercharger whine was very distinctive

I am however getting what I believe is the clutch/supercharger chirp that almost sounds like a blow off valve...does that mean the supercharger IS working properly??

Is there any distinctive sound I can listen for to see if the pump is working? Anything like the SMG pump for BMW's which I thought was very easy to hear if it was working or not...

Also, how would I be able to monitor the heat?

Sorry for the all the questions but I am the king of noobs when it comes to cars with F/I

Intake Air Temperature (IAT). It is one of the outputs of the OBDII. Get a scanner that can show it. All our cars spike, but how high and quickly they recover can be mitigated.

The clutch won't engage with the car in Neutral. I have a pretty loud SC whine now, but it didn't come until lots of mods and finally cutting the secondaryt cats.

Yes it does and that is what it sounds like. Some like it and some don't. I do.

Nothing like a BMW. They sound like and exhaust leak to me.

OBDII scanner

Not a problem, ask away. Half the members are still cool. The other half are just new. I suggest ignoring ANYTHING out of anyone that has been a member for less than a year .

Thanks for all your help so far

So I've been reading more about the I/C problem and I still can't confirm whether or not mine may have an issue but a lot of those who've had their I/C shutdown have also indicated that their car feels like a regular 350 if not slower...

I've driven a non AMG E class about a year or two back if I recall correctly my feels faster than that at all times...

I merged on the freeway today and went through 1st and 2nd gear to/near redline and although it was fast it didn't feel as fast as it could/should be...maybe I'm just expecting too much

You would feel like you were missing 100+ horsepower... There is no mistaking it for anything else. When the S/C shuts down, you will definitely know it.

Ok well I let my buddy drive my car today and did a slight drive by and I could definitely hear the supercharger!

But I still want to dyno or something to make sure everything is working a-ok

Sounds like you just don't have good cooling, so you lose power.

Get a new pump.
