lol....I think that everytime I hit the gas!
gonna head up there in just about 3 hrs.
FYI- I am gonna start a new thread for discussion after I hit the dyno with results...again...

Sorry to keep everyone waiting. I've been on the phone with Jeff (he's not been near a computer all day) and Dave several times today. Long story short Jeff's ECU was improperly flashed before (which is the reason why his ECU didn't take our flash the first time, nor this time despite the extra time we spent on it) which we confirmed today with more dyno testing.
Every ECU contains a memory module that essentially acts as a history book of the control unit. Telling MB and/or whoever else, who's flashed the unit, how many times it's been flashed, etc. This module in Jeff's ECU is corrupt, hence the reason it keeps defaulting to the last tune that was flashed into it before we received it. There are many ways in which such a module can be corrupted but the most likely suspect was improper current used when it was last flashed.
Since there are no replacement parts available to repair such an item and Jeff has already incurred some extra downtime while we diagnosed the issue, we ordered Jeff a new ECU from Germany today. We do not expect to have it to Jeff to VIN initialize before MIR (so he'll in essence be running a Renntech ECU with our TCU at MIR on 11/15) but he'll have it no later than the week after at which time he'll redo the dyno/track tests originally planned for this week with full MHP ECU/TCU.
I know there has been a lot of build up and all eyes are on Jeff so to speak but there's really nothing anyone can say or do at this point, save wait another week for results. I'll close by saying that no one wants to see Jeff's car run at it's full potential at MIR more than Jeff, Dave, and myself however the bottom line is that the tracks are still open for a few more weeks so Jeff can test TCU and ECU/TCU in the next 2 weeks while not incurring any further downtime due to the spare ECU we ordered.
Thanks
Andy

Maybe someone on here has a spare ECU Jeff could buy from them at your price Andy, so he can run MIR. Then, when you get the other one in from Germany you can send it to whomever Jeff got the spare from to replace their spare...Just a thought. If I had a spare stock ECU laying around I'd gladly send it to Jeff for you to tune.

Great idea, and we're game to do it if we can find someone.

Thanks for the update Andy.
Is it specifically Jeff's ECU that has the issue or is this something that could be more prevalent in other E63's as well?
and a big...awwwwwwwwww snap.
Let us know!

No, specific to just Jeff's ECU. Otherwise every ECU we've done wouldn't have taken and again Jeff's was the first ever to not take.

Fingers crossed as a solution may have just presented itself. We'll know 100% one way or another tomorrow--I have a spare ECU coming in that a customer doesn't really need for another week or two anyway.

yeah looks like a solution has dropped in our laps. Should be able to turn this all around before MIR this next saturday and be fully tuned. Down side is everyone is gonna have to wait...including me

Andy or anyone else who may know,
What's the deal with ECU issues as of late? Seems like people have been having problems keeping the tunes, ECU "dumps", hardware-type problems, etc. Is there a way to prevent these types of problems with our ECU's. Are they super sensitive and hate being reflashed multiple times?
Anyways, hope you guys get it resolved before MIR. I have a good parts/tech hookup at the local benz dealer if you need any help.

It's true that ECUs are relatively sensitive pieces of electronic equipment especially when it comes to voltage spikes or incorrectly flashing them, they can brick or become corrupt very easily.
As time goes on I think we'll see more and more of this (failures), especially given that more than a few tuners still pry chips off boards instead of flashing through the prongs directly; which adds yet another dimension to potential hardware failure.
You can really only flash/reflash a ECU/TCU so many times, which is why it's never a bad idea to pick up a spare unit.

Just installed a brand new ECU with stock tune just to be safe and have another one coming at the end of the week. I recommened having a spare ECU.
