E63 Wheel Help

Hoping someone could give me some advice on what will and will not fit on an E63 from a wheel standpoint.

I was told it has ridiculously small clearance for the monster calipers and therefore you have to get specific offsets. I'm looking for winter rims and most of them don't say the offsets. Also do I need to have 9.5's on the back or will 8 or 8.5's work.

When I call the dealership the only thing they will tell me is they recommend AMG rims and can't say whether anything will fit on there.

Does anyone have any "rules of thumb" to follow when looking for something, I don't want to buy something only to have to sell it again because it won't fit. Thanks!

Yeah, it is pretty tricky to find wheels that you can get the AMG break set to sit in.

I would definitely stay with 9.5 or 10" in the rear... 8.5 would look like way toooo small.

Best advice.... get on line, look for some wheels that you like, then either call or email the wheel place and ask them if they will fit.

Their are some really nice, inexpensive, AMG replicas out there, let me know if you are interested and I can point you in the right direction

Thanks! are the E55 and E63 Calipers and clearance all the same? Meaning if I find a set of rims and tires on a 55 will it fit a 63 for sure?

No they won't. Been there, done that. I purchased E55 wheels to use as my winter set, and the 63 calipers do not clear. My service guy told me he could get spacers...but I said, 'no thanks', and sold the 55 wheels.

How big of an issue is it to run spacers if they don't work.

The E63 has huge calipers.....you will need a fairly flat wheel to pull this off. A spacer may make the wheels stick out in front.

The offset is not the major factor here, it is the clearance behind the spoke.

What our NE guys do is use the OEM wheels for winter and get new summer wheels let me know if you would be interested in such

I just went on Tirerack.com and they have about 25 different 18"&19" winter wheels/tires packages to choose from. If you are just looking for wheels they have wheels that will fit that start at $110.00 a wheel.

If you are on a budget check out their Elbrus 102 in 18", it closely resembles your stock E63 wheel and costs $125.00 I priced out those wheels with some Blizaks mounted balanced and delivered to my door for $1385.00

Yup, that is exactly why MB went with 8.5 vs 8 inch fronts. But, did you consider running 4 of the E55 rears? They clear your calipers with no issues.

You can run the E55 front rims (18X8et35) on the rear of your car.

Can you expect any different? You do get what you pay for so decide what you want to compromise.

No real rule of thumb other than to keep in mind that these are unique cars to setup. There is very little extra room in the wheel wells to play with tire width / tallness, etc. Then add the large calipers and you have more issues.
Only rule.....get HUB-CENTRIC rims.

No - I didn't think of that. I just decided to mount my winters on my stock wheels.

Might still be an option for the future.

Thanks.
