Renntech software upgrade

Anyone know what Renntech charges to upgrade software for additional mods? I already have Renntech pulley and software. Seems like I've seen $100 mentioned and some other companies have advertised free upgrades, but what about RT?

I believe if you send in your ECU, all that is required is the shipping fee.

that might be where some have gotten the $100 charge from.

If you we're local and got the original upgrade from us, we would offer to the flash for free.

I guess maybe I should have gone through the place I had it installed but I'm not at that location now. I called RT and they quoted $1000 for the software upgrade. I added a throttebody and headers. They had my original warranty registration card.

I paid quite a nice sum for the first flash and thought this amount to be a bit excessive. I bought the TB & Headers used, so maybe this is why they are sticking it to me. I like having the Renntech parts but if I had it to do over I would not do Renntech again. I probably will just leave it like it is. I can't see how it would run much better.

How old is your software? There may be more to gain than you think. Spend $200 on a datalogger so you can tell. You could also run a dyno and see how the A/Fs look at the top end. that is usually a good sign of the MB tunes.

I think you are right about the dyno and I plan to do one soon. My software is about a year old. Thanks.

ECU reprogram

ECU upgrades are free if MB flashes your ECU back to stock or if you purchase other items such as a throttle body etc from RENNtech or one of there dealers than there is no charge as long as it falls in warranty period from RENNtech.

so if you got your car tuned in say 2004 for headers, pulley, and throttlebody. Now its 2008 and several advances have been discovered to make more power with the tune (same performance adders as mentioned above). So you are saying that Renntech does not continually improve on there tunes to keep up to date with possible tuning discoveries or improvements? What I am trying to say is, according to you (if I am reading into this correctly),is that the Renntech tune from 2004 is identical to the tunes now being provided in 2008 (no further improvements from 2004 till now and no updated versions) for the same power adders????? The only way to get an improved tune (if there is one) is to buy additional Renntech equipment.

Very few tuners provide software revisions on an open slate. I HOPE what Bob is trying to say is that yes they would take care of their clients much as any other tuner does. Vadim has flashed my car with at least 6 different variants. Would he do that for anyone who walks in the door? No. But I'm sure he would for people with lots of VRP parts that they got through him. Same goes for a RennTech tune. If you bought the parts from a RennTech distributor (do they exist in California anymore?) then you should be able to speak with that same distributor to get taken care of.

I am interested to hear if RennTech acknowledges any updates to the E55k tune since 2004. If not, I'd be scared to use it since they did not have the TQ management worked out too well back then.

im not sayin that it should be an open slate, but a reasonable update fee...lets say $100.00 or so if the "warranty" period is up.

I don't disagree and personally think that RennTech's biggest flaw is lack of client support. they are still used to the days where a dude buys a benz, tricks it out and drives it forever without another mod. Those clients are few and far between these days.
