I havent seen the car yet but I heard its in good shape. Probably just needs a paint job and a detail... How much should I be looking to spend?

I know this isnt the right forum, but you guys have known about everything else so far, so I figured I'd give it a shot.

Assuming your post doesn't contain a typo for the model year, I'd do some investigation since the only E28 M5's brought over here by BMWNA were all 1988 model years. It could be a grey market car in which case it could be a 1987 model year. The S38 engine of any E28 vintage M5 needs both a compression and leakdown test done before consideration of any purchase since the higher mileage examples definitely begin to show wear on the valve stems. It's a neat car if it's in good shape. Had a '88 M5 as my very first BMW M car back in the day and mastered Road America with it. Fun driver's car.
