Yea,,, my fault,,,, low 20's is right, but still I doubt that for a 17,000 mile car. The guy could drive that to any dealer no matter what the state of the economy and get more then that,,, especially a MB dealer.

Even still, $17,000 would not be far off the mark for a motivated seller, especially one involved in a bankruptcy, and even moreso in chapter 7.

Either way these cars are a steal at the current price.

A 2003 with 17k miles in the low 20's is probably about current market. December was a big hit from November, and I wouldn't bet on January being any better.
Unbelievable to hear you get cars for around 14000 euros! We still have to pay
89000 euros= 123000 dollars for a 2005 model with 96000km=59000miles

Just an example of what "fast" cars we get for 14000e in finland that are a 2004 model:

And yes you can have a Mercedes for 14000euros!

Mercedes-Benz A 140 Lang 5d
Mazda 6 Sport Wagon 1.8 Elegance 5d
Chrysler Sebring 2.0 A4 LE
Citroen C5 2.0i-16 SX Berline 5d A
Ford Mondeo 1.8i 110hv Ambiente Sportback
Honda Civic 1.6i ES 5d

I too was torn between e55 and e60 M5. Pound for pound, the E55s are cheaper. But my first choice was the M5. Long story short: as of last night, I am the proud owner of a 2006 Interlagos Blue M5 with just about every option installed. Moral: in this soft market, you can get either car at a very decent price. Get the one you like best.

'94 NSX,'99 NSX Z,'12 C63 Black Series (Prior: '07 E63, '08 CLK63 Black Series,'14 E63-S & 16 C63-S)
So over the weekend I drove 5 hours one way to make the final inspection on an '05 E55 with 54k miles in white with the two tone leather interior (not my first choice of interior, but livable) and was excited because I had every intention of getting the deal made. To say I was disappointed when I got there is an understatement. The car was not the 'spotless' car that was described to be. There were several issues with the car, and needless to say, I drove another 5 hours home without a dealing being made. 10 hours in the car, and a full Saturday down the tubes.

Now I am on the search again. I almost struck a deal on the '05 E55 with 47k miles that was also white and had more of the options I liked, but the seller is stuck on almost his full asking price, and in this market I think he is making a poor choice. So if anyone knows of another white E55 in the year range 2004 - 2006, please let me know, as I am eager to find the right car.

Thank you everyone for your help. I look forward to joining the gang soon.

2004 E55 AMG
I currently have both and I love them for their own wonderful traits.

To me the E39 M5 is the best BMW ever made. Sure it isn't a light, agile, barebones E30 M3, but it also isn't an all out electronic wunderbeast like the E60 M5. The S62 is still a very potent motor, with most stock M5s running in the low 13s. I have modded mine with KW Coilovers and BBS LM wheels, so it definitely is a more focused handling car than my E55. IMHO the E39 body is the best ever by BMW, especially in M5 clothes.

The E55 is the beast. It is the funnest car to drive people around in, as no one expects such a car to be a low 12 second drag racer. I wish the car had some more dynamic feedback and I wish the brakes weren't so sensitive. The E55 lowered on wheels looks fantastic, however stock for stock I think the E55 loses out to a clean E39 M5. The NAV and "oh cool" features of the E55 are better than the BMW's.

If I had to keep one I would keep the E39 M5, to me it will always remind me of what a purebred sports sedan encompasses.

The E55 will be remembered similarly to the Supra TT, a monster of a vehicle that is easy to mod for more power.
