Help, 05 e55 fell out of gear on freeway????
The other day I was driving my car down the freeway with the distronic cruise engaged and I wanted to get around traffic and so I punched it and over rid the cruise, then when I went to slow down to let the cruise back in control the car made a clunk sound and suddenly dropped out of gear,( with the gear selector still in drive) the engine idling going down the freeway at 70mph. I was like OH SH*T. What the hell just happened? I tried shifting into neutral and back into drive but nothing happened. I was able to get off the next offramp coasting and thought I wasn't going to make it through the intersection when the car went back into gear and I drove off and went into a parking lot and checked codes. It came back with a pending code about (inncorrect gear ratio)
The car only has 34k on it. Any ideas?

hopefully it is nothing major for you. I had that code happen to me recently and it resulted in a new tranny. It was covered by warranty for me though. Hopefully it is covered for ya.

MBWorld Fanatic!
Have you had any unusual shuddering or vibrations when pulling away from a stop at hard throttle?
I ask because this in conjunction with what you just described could mean that you have a failing tranny.
I would check the fluid level and also look at the fluid on a dipstick to make sure it looks good and has no obvious signs of contamination. If all looks good, I would find a safe and empty to place to go do some hard pulls from a stop and up through the gears. I would also though in some cruising with a kick down (floor it). If all this is fine, I would attribute it to a "brain fart" in the ECU which happened to my SLK32 once in the past.

car is under warranty, so It will be going into the shop next week. Sounds like something not good. I've nailed it a few times since up through the gears and it seems okay, not sure about the pending code. Guess this one is for the dealer. Haven't had any shuttering or vibrations, but lets hope it was just a computer glitch.
